mar52 - Don't just sit at home weeping and bemoaning your fate. Do like I'm gonna do. Empty out the savings account, throw some suitcases in the car, and hit the road with a copy of Roadfood! Life is for living ( and stomachs are for stuffing. )                Bob

mr chips - that is a very impressive list of RF places. I wish mine was at least half that long ( 55 so far... phooey! ) I noticed that the Ridgewood in Bluff City isn't on your TN list; if you ever get back to the Volunteer State, you've gotta hit the Ridgewood. I've eaten there eight or nine times, and I always come away with a big grin. If they serve Q in Heaven, it's theirs.

When I get back to Tennessee, i will try to hit the Ridgewood. This year we will try to hit a lot of roadfood places in Oregon and Washington and add some reviews of places along the I-5 corridor.

I just populated a Google map with many of my highlights ... Still a work in progress.

Some non-RF place, but it is a list of where I eat.

LINK ... it is easier to navigate by using the link at the bottom of the map.

I'm thinking of adding a class of RF places I have been to, but don't endorse ... maybe I can find a black marker.

Over time I'll migrate my WGE comments and pictures to each restaurant.

I thought I would enter a separate listing for the Roadfood establishments included in the Stern's new "500 Things To Eat Before It's Too Late" book.

These are Roadfood restaurants that I previously visited but were either not reviewed on the forum or not in any previous Sterns book...

wanderingjew, not that it matters a whit... but I just thought you'd want to know... Johanna's Kitchen was actually recommended by the Sterns on 11/5/96 - not in a book, but in a series of web articles they used to do called Wish You Were Here.  I believe it was for Epicurious.  They would do "postcards" each week from various Roadfood places around the country.  Did it for years, so there were probably hundreds of them.  I don't think they are still available online though (I'm not certain of that).

Texas Chili Parlor showed up in a list of top ten chilis that the Sterns did for Epicurious online.  They did a series of top 10 lists (and they may still be doing them, I don't know) and I think you can still find them on the Epicurious website.

Faidley's was never given its own entry but it was discussed as part of the entry for the Lexington Market in the 1992 Roadfood.

And the O&H was recommended in a Stern book: A Taste of America.  This book compiled the syndicated columns the Sterns used to do where they discussed a Roadfood restaurant and accompanied the story with a recipe.  I don't know if it's still in print but you should be able to score a used copy.  It's a wonderful book!

This feels like pointing out that, yes, the Dead DID actually perform an extended version of That's Alright, Mama at the late concert in Elk City, OK on 8/17/73, during the 2nd encore - I have a tape of it off the board, if you wanna trade, dude.  But there you are!

Bruce,

Thanks for the input. since the O & H Bakery appeared in a different book that I don't have (but I now want to get)- I'll remove it from this list and add it to the other list. Since the other Roadfood haunts didn't have an entry on either this website or the other books they'll stay

While I find most of the forum software upgrades to be winners, one of the things that I do miss is when threads were revived when edited for content.  I don't miss the people who used to abuse the same technology - but, this thread is one, particularly, that stands out as an "I wish..."

These lists are very impressive. Has anyone made a master list of ALL the places that have appeared in the Roadfood books over the years? Perhaps as an Excel Spreadsheet or something. And of course my next question would be, if there is such a list is it available for sharing?

The reason I'm asking is that I've kept lists of every restaurant/take out and every bar/tavern I've been in since 1970 (well over 2500 of each, with some overlap, eg: Bar AND Restaurant) but since I no longer have most of the older RF books I really have no way to determine which were actual RF places, other than by making a good guess.

Heck, I'd even be willing to purchase such a list, to compensate for time and effort.

Just thought I'd ask.

Sorry ken8038, as far as I know, nothing like that exists.  It would come in handy, though.
