Yes, that's it. When I go out, I want to leave technology behind and don't want to be handed a pager by the hostess. If they can't provide old-fashioned personal service, they should be doing something else.

Restaurants that use pagers to let you know when you're table is ready. 
Are you talikin about the vibrator - flashing light ones?
That's better than having some idiot blaring over a loudspeaker, "Joe Blissfick, table of 1"!
I agree. I prefer a quiet buzzing pager over some host or hostess yelling for and having to hunt down a missing group. I realize most of them don't yell, but there a few restauarants that come to mind where you'd think they were carnival barkers. Glenn

I have only encounterd the " loud speaker" method and " vibrator" method once, each. Was kind of shocking to me as most of the restaurants I frequent have hostesses that seat you.They were neccessary in the places I ate, but not a favorite method to seat me.

When I had knee surgery last summer, the hospital used the pager/buzzer system to let my family know I was coming out of recovery. They thought it was kind of neat.
