Thoughts as I Grow older

17 January, 2014

As I celebrate my 64 years on this planet - that last year before the government takes full control of my physical and financial health , I realize I am not the only one who shares this day, if not year date.  Someone else who is also finally proud to be an American also celebrates this natal day.  Never having held an elective office, nevertheless, they are a symbol for many in this country for much of what is right - and wrong - today.  A bit overly flashy in dress, not too mindful of public monies in supporting a lifestyle some would characterize as obscene, nevertheless, they travel far and wide to push the agenda for Change and bring about a restructuring of total society. Happy birthday.

With a flamboyant personality, their picture will grace far more  "pages" - both electronic and print, than mine ever will.  But they are more than just a pretty face.  A strong proponent that the government should supply those goods and services that ALL of its citizens should have, regardless of the how that is defined in the Constitution, they have left an indelible mark on the American scene with new, innovative ways that citizens will celebrate...and hopefully use, in fact, will be forced to use as other alternatives in the private sector dwindle. Happy Birthday.

Unlike others who surround them, this person is decidedly American by birth today. Those that questioned whether some others have that birthright have been finally silenced by the electoral process.  There is no doubt that it was a typical American success story - born poor, worked their way up and eventually became a legal and moral force to be reckoned with. A politician without office. Happy Birthday!

Of course, I am speaking of the person whose name is more familiar to many Americans today than almost any other, living or dead,  despite never having held a serious elected position in our federal Government.  A person whose "remarks" sometimes would backfire.  Who has been widely criticised for a lavish lifestyle at public expense, but who let those criticisms roll off their back while pushing another "agenda".  A person who in some sectors of the economy is idolized in a way that others feel is obscene, nevertheless, will go down in the history books as unique and memorable.

Happy Birthday.................

You're making it very difficult not to get "Political" on this thread.

Cheers! Guess I've nursed this one long enough though...

Typing with my right hand and eating home made pizza with my left, I keep fantasizing about the Pepe's White Clam pie I'll be having in a few weeks. I can even view the steamy pics when I turn off Safe Search in my browser
