What did you mean by;

ground beef-cooked rice, as in the following?

"STUFFED PEPPERS!!!! Mix up some ground beef-cooked rice,fine chopped onions, garlic,your favorite herbs and spices,(i like to add a little nutmeg),and an egg or two and stuff it into some nice big bell peppers---place in a oven proof baking dish and cover with a nice tomatoe sauce and bake it!!! Lip smacking good!"

I want to make these for dinner tonight, about 3 hours frrom now. I know, I know, last minute cook here.

    I have not made these in years as my daughter in law cannot tolerate green peppers. However, I do know that I alway mixed in 2 cups of cooked rice to every pound of raw ground beef. I hope this helps you.

      Mike, precook the rice, then add to the uncooked meat/eggs. Think meatloaf with cooked rice added-take whatever mixture you decide on(I like diced onions, garlic, and celery added in) and stuff it into bell peppers with the tops cut off and cleaned inside. Put them upright in a baking dish, top with tomato sauce and sliced tomatos and onions and sometimes breadcrumbs, or something else to your liking, then bake at 300-325 for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or so. Timing varies according to how big the peppers are.

        My Ukrainian mother-in-law always adds some rendered salt pork to the mix. In my experience, both with stuffed peppers and stuffed cabbage, brown rice works well. While I'm normally not a big fan of brown rice, it actuallly adds a toothsome quality to the stuffing, but doesn't taste any healthier. I also like to saute the onions and garlic before addind to the meat mixture. What ever rice you use, cook it only about halfway for the stuffing.

          I saute tomatoes, tomato sauce, onions, garlic, the tops of the peppers(chopped)a little celery, spices, till veggies are tender. Mix 1 cup of this with 1 1/2 lbs ground chuck, cooked rice, an egg a shot of worcestershire, s & p. Stuff the peppers, put in a baking dish, pour over remaining sauce. Bake as bill says. I like to top mine with a little mozzarella or provolone the last 5 minutes. Some may blanch the peppers first. I prefer not.

              If you are lazy, and short on time, the precooked Uncle Ben's in the pouch is a good ingredient when you need to add a little cooked rice to whatever you are making. I don't care for it "alone" as a side dish, but if it is just a small part of the filling for stuffed zuchinni or similar, it can save you a lot of time. I know that a lot of these dishes were originally invented to use up leftovers, and my grandmother must spin in her grave to see me spending perhaps 20 x what I should for a cup of rice, and then use it to make common food, but I do.

                Thanks everybody! My stuffed peppers came out just great. PP of course refused to try any but Ava and I scarfed them up. Oh yeah, Ava is our 4 yr old. I sauteed onion, celery and bell pepper until tender. I made 1 cup of dry rice up in 2 cups of beef broth and them let it cool. Mixed everything up with 2lbs of hamburger, chopped garlic and seasoned it well. I boiled the peppers for 4 minutes since my stomach only likes WELL done peppers.
