Tip amount on specials?

Recently a local place advertised a special in celebration of their x number of years in business. Their full rack of BB ribs was with two sides was on sale for 4 days for $9.95 instead of the normal menu price of $18.99. The place was packed for all 4 days which was very unusual for them as I normally see a less than half full parking lot even during prime lunch and dinner. I think I cheaped out on the tip amount as I tipped on the check amount rather than the normal menu price. What's your opinion?

Personally I would tip on the menu price.  The wait staff should not suffer due to the special.  Think.... more work and less pay.

The same goes for two for one specials.

I'll also tip a bit more if I have something small to eat rather than a meal.  I'm taking up time at a table where another could be ordering a full meal.

However, if the service is bad...

If I know what the standard price is I'll tip on that. The waitstaff works just as hard with specials as with everything else on the menu.
