Today's New York System Dogs (7/23/09)

There is a need for a law to protect those such as myself from the horrible representations of some sort of food in today's terrible depiction of cylinders of strange meats encased in something disgusting and topped with even more unmentionables.

The fact that the photographic representation of said cylinders causes uncontrollable droplets of moisture, sometimes referred to as drool,  to emanate from the corners of my mouth does not mitigate against the criminal posting of such inhuman depictions.

Shame! Shame on whoever did such a dastardly deed.

taking a thought (if you can call it that) from two other threads floating around here, you don't need a law you need a warning label.

    Michael-
I'm thinking wanderingjew is to blame for taking Travelin Man and myself there this past Saturday.

I gotta tell ya...It's been a long while since I have been more underwhelmed in a restaurant (and that's probably the nicest way of saying it).

I don't know.  When I saw the pool of grease coagulating on the grill under the weiners, I decided to order something else.  Perhaps my two dining companions can weigh in on their purchases.  I found the place to be filthy and also possessing one of the scariest bathrooms I have ever had to endure.

If that meets your definition of "suck," then maybe it is so.

Frankly (sorry for the pun)  all the Rhode Island NY System joints underwhelm me. Personally I think that Olneyville serves the best of the lot, but this past weekend, I thought they were sub-par. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'll take an "average" Detroit Coney" over the best NY System Weiner any day.

Then I guess the last two replies begs the question, why did you go there?

I believe George Mallory said it best - "...because it was there."  I didn't know I would be underwhelmed before we got there - though, admittedly, I am not much of a hot dog guy.  I know that there are those who think that the only places to go are places that offer can't-miss, average, "reliable" food - many of these places are apparently found in the Daytona Beach area - like Chili's and Olive Garden.  Me - well, I would rather take the chance on finding an exceptional meal experience than settle for a reliable, average one on most days.

As for wanderingjew's comments, I am not sure that we had the option of going to a Detroit coney place, so I guess we went with a NY system weiner place, instead.

Oh I meant no offense my thought was since WJ is from there why did he take you to a place that according to his post was sub-par to begin with that's all no criticism on anyone.

On a scale of I Don't Know to Who Cares, where would you rank a New York System thing, a Detroit Coney and a Cincinnati Coney?

The adage "one picture is worth a thousand words" has
been shot down by The Traveling Man.  No pic of the Men's Room is necessary.

I'm sure my friends are being nice, but I'm the one who most wanted to go there.  So blame me!  It was late at night after a long day of eating, so I may not have been in the best frame of mind.  But, I did not think these were as good as what I have had at Original NY System or Sam'sWJ knows more about these places than I do and he says Olneyville is the best and had an off night.  That is good enough for me.  The coffee milk and the sweet potato fries were really good, though.

Oh, and as TTM said, the place was filthy beyond belief.  To be fair, it should be stated that we went to the Cranston location, not the one listed in the review.

If you are asking me, I would rate them all a "I don't give a flying...."    But, I surely wouldn't begrudge anyone else eating them.

Oh...and this WAS all buffetbuster's fault!  He made up for it, though, with suggestions for The Daily Scoop and Marguerite's!

Well, ya'll can eat out yer little weenie-scarfin' hearts.  Tomorrow, I'm having a rack of ribs at Dreamland in Huntsville, followed by dinner on Saturday at Wintzells Guntersville  location with the Susans, along with other assorted riff-raff. If Janet and Sundancer made an appearance, the evening might approach perfection.
