Yeah, We've noticed, now that the garden variety are done for the year. Our last bunch were staying green, so we made one load of Bread and Butter Pickles out of the last of the crop.

This is the worst I have ever seen it! In the past, a single hurricane would cause prices to rise, but the quadruple whammy in Florida this year was the death sentence to pricing! Burger King, Wendy's, Olive Garden and others are having to accommodate their menu's without tomatoes. A sure sign there's shortages in the market. Nacho

George W. and his evil brother Jeb arranged for the hurricanes for the sole purpose of raising tomato prices. If it weren't true, could I say it? I just wanted to beat the democrats and CBS to the public on this attrocity. Cakes

My husband wanted a simple grilled cheeseburger Saturday night. By the time I paid $1.99 lb for a tasteless tomato, $1.89 for a head of "rusty" lettuce, his cheeseburger became costly. I returned the lettuce for a refund as it wasn't fit to feed the guina pigs. I'd been better off getting salad mix!

When tomatoes are very expensive or the only kind that I can buy are tasteless ones, I open a can of diced tomatoes and drain the juice off. I then put the tomatoes on paper toweling and let them stay there until I make my salad. I have also added them done this way to burgers. It works well and they are far tastier than the tomatoes that we will be seeing in the stores.

I usually only buy Roma tomatoes, because around here, even the "hothouse" or "vine-ripened" ones taste like nothing.. the Romas are the only ones with any flavor.. my tomato tolerating husband asked me to stop buying them... I asked him why..he said "they taste too much like tomatoes!"..

For people like me, this is a godsend!! For once in my life I don't have to order "without tomato" and still worry that some ignoramous is going to stick them in there anyway.

I don't even like them by themselves. It's a texture issue, and having them in the garden as a child.
