Tommy Pastrami in Orange County, CA Sat, 08/30/08 8:59 AM (permalink)
When I was in L.A. and Orange County the other week, something that struck me was how many places, including fast-food-style restaurants, had "pastrami" in their names, or prominantly displayed on their marquees.

One that was near to my hotel was:

Inside, the decor clearly was fast-food modern:

I ordered an "Original" (6 oz.) pastrami on rye to go. Here was the result:

It was pretty good. Enough fat on the pastrami for flavor, decent rye bread, and a good mustard. The pickle was good too. There also is a "Jumbo" (8 oz.), and other bread choices are available.

I wish that there some of these in my county - maybe we could swap some McDonald's?

We used to have two Schlotzky's, where one could get some drive-through-take-out corned beef, pastrami and other sandwiches, but the both of them mysteriously closed up one day.
