I think the Mike Leach situation has only begun to get messy...if he turns out to be the one telling the truth the embarassment level for Tech is going to be almost unfathomable.

AM, you better hope that Kelly doesn't try to implement a Cincinnati-style defense at ND.  The Bearcats were certainly exposed as a pretender and not a contender yesterday...I wonder if they'll even be in the top 10 in the final rankings.

And congrats to Joe Pa and Bobby Bowden.  I've never been a big FSU or Bowden fan but it was nice to see his players step it up and send him out with a win.

    Florida 51-Cinncinnati 24
    And it wasn't that close------

You are right Brad---no defense made Tebow, Meyer and the
Gainesville Gang smile from ear to ear.  It was like watching the
    varsity play the JV.

Kelly will need a running game and a stout defense at ND,
he will not be playing the Hackers AC any more.  No run game,
    no defense, NO KELLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing is for sure---you can not play the big boys if you don't have the talent-
Cincy was beaten by a bigger, stronger, faster team-----they didn't belong on the same field.  Blame the stupid rating system---Cincy should not be considered #3 in the nation-----they won 12 games over weak or mediocre opponents.

Added extra attraction--Tebow was fantastic.  I have never seen one guy play a
    game better.

Wait till next year-------I am praying hard for the Irish every day !!!!!
Once more into the breech Lads,
Once more play like champions !!!!!!!

Watching the interview with Colt McCoy nearly broke my heart...what a horrible thing to have happen at any time, but particularly this game in his career.  I have to say I was completely impressed with Garrett Gilbert as well as the entire Texas organization...but...ROLL TIDE ROLL!

yeah, Gilbert was fantastic, what with those four picks and a fumble.

Certainly he helped bring them back to 3pts, but lets face it,  labama played super soft in the 3rd quarter, especially on offense, but really on both sides of the ball assuming they could let their lead "roll." In some ways they were right - Texas never toppled the 24 points 'Bama racked up in the 2nd quarter. But once things got interesting, they applied the pressure on defense and got aggressive on offense and opened back up to 16 point spread in a flash, blasting Texas the same as they did in the 2nd quarter. There was no doubt in my mind after McCoy went out and 'Bama scored their first TD that "bama was going to win.

So, yes, Gilbert showed heart, but aside from a few passes to Sharpley, he clearly wasn't ready for the #1 team in the land. But, he's got an excellent start on Spring training.

I, too, felt horrible for McCoy. At the time he got tackled, I wondered if he got a stinger.  I assumed he'd come back in, but when he went to the locker room, I had a sinking suspicion his day was done. It's a shame for him. But, he'll always be remembered as a Texas great by the alumni, and he's going to make some nice coin in the NFL.

Saban would have shown a lot of class if he had taken a knee instead of

a TD at the very end of the game.  Kinda like tipping his hat to a worth opponent

who was playing while handicapped by the loss of it's big star.

The age of chivalry is dead in Alabama I guess.

They did take a knee at the end!

OHHHH, you mean with 1:57 left. Well, considering Texas made a sizable comeback when Alabama was dogging it in the 3rd quarter, I didn't have a problem with that.

You can't tell players to stop playing in the National Championship. These guys want to pay for 60 minutes, not 58.  Alabama ran running plays. It's not like they were chucking the ball downfield. They lined up for running plays - it was blantantly obvious that they were going to run the ball. Texas simply needed to make a stop and not let 'Bama get a first down. I think, if they stopped them a few times, time would've just ran out - because Alabama was not going to call time outs. I thikn their plan was to run a few plays to get enough 1st downs to get the play clock to a point where Texas couldn't stop it. At 1:57 left, Texas still had a time-out and a chance, if they wanted, to get the ball back, even if just for 15 seconds. It's not like Texas had shown they were willing to kneel on the ball.

no need to boo hoo 'Bama's final TD. Even AFTER that TD, Down by 16, Texas was still throwing the ball downfield trying to advance the ball. If Texas wanted the game to be over, they could've knelt on it themselves.

And, when Alabama intercepted a ball thrown downfield by Texas with under 30 seconds left in the game, Alabama did end the game by kneeling on the ball.

I didn't mean to give the impression that Gilbert played amazingly well...but on the other hand, a true freshman thrown in like that in the championship game deserves a ton of props for giving everything he had.  He's young...that's not a sin.  And I suspect he knew better than anyone on the planet that he was not ready, but what was he going to do?  Tell them he didn't mean it, and they should find someone else?  Same thing could've happened to us had McElroy gotten hurt.  I just hope Colt's shoulder is nothing serious...that young man has amazing potential, and I expect to see great things from him in the future.

And I totally agree...with two minutes left in the game, there is no way we should've taken a knee.  Texas had ample opportunity to stop us, and they simply couldn't do it.  The still deserve credit for making it undefeated into the game and for playing their hearts out.

Boooohooooo he didn't take a knee! Chivalry has nothing to do with football, save that for holding the door for ladies.  They are men, they can take it, or are you saying they cant?

Felix - yeah, I know. I just thought the commentators were praising him a little too much. I agree we saw him grow a couple inches taller last night. And honestly, the O-line wasn't making it easy on him. Except the TD strike (a beautifully executed play) Gilbert was under non-stop pressure. And, he reacted well in the 3rd quarter, slipping around the pocket like and old pro during their first TD drive. But, he made some horrible mistakes in the process. I can't blame him for timing problems - I doubt he took too many snaps this week - but throwing into coverage is bad news.

Like I said, he has an amazing jump on Spring Training. He also has the knowledge of just how far he has to go to get himself ready for another title chance, should the team make it there - or even to a Big 12 Championship. Knowing the road you need to take, can be very helpful. He may never see a defense that good ever again. So, if his goal is to be better than that defense, and if he achieves that goal - he'll be a monster QB.

it's a good article. But basketball players can't take knees. Which is why these type of lopsided games happen in basketball more than football. Even worse is girls basketball. I've seen games 50-10 at the half. And that was with bench players. The losing team couldn't hit the rim - it's like they all had astigmatism and forgot their glasses. Meanwhile, the winning team was a state finalist the previous year and top ranked again playing a team that was no better than a modified team.

Knowing when to call off the dogs can be tough when reserves are involved.  On one hand any coach with class doesn't want to embarass the opponent but at the same time it's an opportunity to get the bench some quality playing time, and just running out the clock doesn't qualify.

Truthfully, I think starting the kneeldowns with 2 minutes left last night would've been far more insulting to Texas and its fans than that last TD.

                              oh yeah, that's very true.
If you're killing them, work on set defenses - maybe zone to try to get kids to learn to move side to side faster. No point making it hard for them to inbound the ball.

Penn State's in trouble. We'll be sporting a new QB vs. a return veteran team of the Nat'l Championship in Tuscaloosa. Even a home game would be tough. But, you know that PSU coaching staff is already looking at the tapes from last night.

OSU, on the other hand should handle Miami, IMO.

Rioting on UT campus last night even though it was only 20 degrees.  I think they would have tarred & feathered  any of the coaches leaving.  Both Kiffins and Ed Orgeron.

The blogs are claiming Ed Orgeron was telling early enrollees not to go to class, but follow the staff to USC. Telling kids not to show up to class is right up there with a guy like Bob Huggins yelling at a kid for studying all night and being tired for a game. There are pictures of a boulder on the UT campus with some blunt mesages written to Lane Kiffin on it.
