I don't know that I can actually come up with ten, but, these are all recent (within the last year or two) and I will provide some visual aids....

    In no particular order...

Apple Pie at Ranchman's Cafe; Ponder, TX

The Oatmeal, Texas at Love and War in Texas; Plano, TXFreshly baked oatmeal-raisin cookies, topped with cinnamon ice cream, caramel and graham cracker crumbles.

Marble cheesecake from Magnolia Bakery; New York, NY
Let everyone else prattle on abotu the cupcakes, but act like you know what you're doing and get one of their cheesecakes!

Spumoni at L&B Spumoni Gardens; Brooklyn, NY
The only real reason I responded to this thread was to use this picture.

    Cheesecake from Junior's; Brooklyn, NY

Concrete (this one is apple pie) from Ted Drewe's; St. Louis, MO

Chocolate Pie (front/left) from Monument Cafe; Georgetown, TX

Believe it or not, I don't often order dessert when I am out, so my geographic limitations seem set to NY and TX. I will have to dig through my archives to see what else I can come up with. I am pretty sure I have a picture of the chiffon pie from Stone's, as mentioned above.

As always, it is a good idea to provide visuals. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself. I think I should go back and add them to my list, too.

Looking over your list, it looks like you love banana desserts as much as I do. My single favorite dessert is banana cream pie, but I have never been able to find a truly great one in a restaurant.

Banananaanas and Chocolate are my down fall.

If you ever make it this way I will treat you to the Banananana Chimi at acapulcos. Imagine Banannanas Foster wrapped in a tortilla with ice cream.

They are open for lunch and I am hungry....hmmmmm I guess i will walk up the street and get one.

The Beaver Dam Cafe in Beaver Dam, KY used to have Banananaana cream pie to DIE for, the little old lady made it fresh daily and it was the first to sell out.

Sadly, I think Al-The-Mayor said he and Janet went by there a while back and it was closed for good.

If so that would be 2 great places for pie now off my list.

Johnny Rays & Beaver Dam Cafe

    Ok,

I've seen some of the responses here-

Since I created the thread- it's my fault!

    I meant- top 10 desserts:

non-local (although 1 local restaurant would be ok)
    non-chain
    restaurant

    Sorry- my error!

I was recently on holiday from the UK and stayed in Las Vegas, and while I was there I had my very first Coconut Cream Pie.It was so delicious I was at a loss for words to describe it.Sadly my enjoyment was completely lost on my daughter as she hates coconut with a vengence. However it has just displaced Cinnamon Rolls from the top spot of American desserts, and pushed Key Lime Pie into 3rd place. So now what I need to do is to have a go at making one myself.Don`t know whether or not I can reach the perfection of the one I ate in the Rio buffet though.
