Topless places, rough places and Roadfood.

 
Back in the late 1970's as a kid, my father, myself and a friend decided to have lunch. We went to this Industrial Park area called President's Island (in Memphis, Tennessee) I was about 11 or so.
 
It was noontime and as we opened the door, I saw a woman dance and knew it was a topless place.  I was a bit chicked because I never thought at my age I would be allowed in that place, and it was freaking noontime! In Memphis, in an industrial park.  The place was subdivided, we ate in another room out of eyeshot of the breasts. That side was just a typical greasy spoon diners, but I like greasy spoon diners, 90% are very good.
 
Do you know any good restaurants in "adult oriented" businesses like a topless bar. Like "The Pink Cheetah on I-9 highway makes a damn good cheeseburger." Myabe a place like "The Bada Bing" on The Sopranos. Personally, I'm not into topless places, and have only been in one once (in freaking Iowa!) in my life.
 
The memory of the topless diner has stuck with me for 30 plus years and inspired this post.

When I was a kid, my father stopped at a truck stop for a burger lunch for us, when you squeezed the ketchup container, which had an imprint of a female on it, her breasts bulged out, dad did the truck stop hustle, OUT!

In an early edition of the ROADFOOD Book, Jane and Michael reviewed a restaurant in "Naked City, Indiana" where the servers worked in the buff. I have waited for many years for the photo review of that place to be added to this website, but it hasn't shown up yet. Since the edition of the book was done in the late 1970's I would imagine the images could be a bit less appealing (no pun intended) these days, 30 plus years later.

I often wonder which of our RF leaders selected that particular place for inclusion in their publication.???

Years ago, when our boys were abut 9 and 11 we had a flat tire as we were traveling thru Fayetteville, NC. We jacked up the car, unloaded a ton of baggage , found the "doughnut" spare, changed the wheel, repacked the car, and drove to the nearest service station. They said it would be a a couple of hours before they could get around to fixing  our tire, so we walked a few hundred feet to a nearby restaurant in a large two or three story building. 

The menu was pretty skimpy, we ordered sandwiches and soft drinks, and waited quite a while for the food. Meanwhile our youngest, a born explorer, went around investigating the place and reported to us that the men's room had a wall of machines dispensing some kind of "stuff". I investigated and found they were condom dispensers - no big shock there, but the variety and exotic descriptions were a revelation beyond the imagination or experience of this old seaman.

Meanwhile Gail noticed a steady traffic of men and women checking in with the cashier and proceeding up and down the stairs.

"Oh my god", we said, "We're in a whorehouse !"

There is a joint in Crystal City, Va called The Crystal City Restaurant. Not exactly topless but very close....VA has a pasty law. The girls wait tables and take turns dancing in the G-string and pasty's.

The good thing is the food is very good and very reasonably priced, a nice lunch size ribeye with a couple of sides used to be under 10 or 12 bucks. The burgers were also very good!

Yeah. But what do you with the tip?

You park the tip (folded bills only) carefully on the corner of the table and the girl dances over and picks it up - at least that's what they did in Cuba and Panama 50 years ago.

My co-workers had to go to Maine once for training and said they went to a topless doughnut shop. No pictures for proof though.

we had a place here on federal highway in fort lauderdale called ''R'' Donuts, topless donut and coffee bar, closed up around 87-88 i think

I was in the Phillipines in the late '80's just being a beach bum and island hopping.  I was at a small beachside Inn run by a French Ex-Pat, ordered breakfast.  About 15 min later it comes out to me served by a drop dead beautiful french woman wearing only a batik skirt and a hellofa tan.  I was unprepared.  Flustered, an unusual loss for words.

Turns out it was the French Ex-Pats girlfriend.  She's French, it's beachside Phillipines, and she doesn't feel like wearing a top.

I ate at the Inn a lot that week rather than venture into town.

WarToad, Reminds me of my first time in Martinique.  I am laying on the beach with my wife, and this beautiful girl, carrying an armful of t-shirts comes over and asks if we would like to buy a t-shirt.  I said no thank you and continued relax on the beach.

I am watching as the guy next to me agrees to buy a t-shirt from her.  She takes her t-shirt off(nothing on underneath)and puts the t-shirt on that the guy wants to buy.  Takes it off and puts on another one, then another one.  After the girl left the guy looks at me and says, "it was 35 bucks, but I made her try it on three times".
 
A few minutes later another beautiful girl in a bikini, carrying an armful of bikinis, is walking up the beach.  I looked at my wife and told her I would like to buy her a new bikini, and I don't care what it costs.  She asked me if I wanted to wear her $15 pina colada
