Toyota Handathon

Back in the mid 80's we used to an event (actually the same type contest at different dealers) which entailed keeping your hand on a new car longer then everyone else in order to win same. In the weeks leading up to the handathon people would enter contests and promotions to become one of the 20-30 finalists. The event was pretty heavily covered by local radio and TV with many reports during the day and night about how many were left. Also a lot of spectators showed up. Seems like the winners went in excess of a 100 hours with their hand on the car. When I googled the word "handathon" most of the references were to my area of Ft.Pierce, Stuart, FL which made me wonder if this type of contest was held in other parts of the country. I do seem to remember the winner or runner up being carted off in a ambulance one year so this may have led to the demise of the contest. Just curious if any of you had the Toyota Handathon in you area.

A contest like this was one of the storylines in this episode of That '70s Show.
