Trader Joe's Cheese Curds

We've loved cheese curds ever since first tasting them in Wisconsin -- and could even find good ones living in Maine. We scooped these up from TJ's in CT and were disappointed. They weren't at all "squeaky," even when the microwave directions were followed (which I still don't entirely understand). We did, however, use them for homemade poutine, and they melted fine for that. But I wouldn't buy them again. Maybe AnnPeeples will school us here!

I think squeaky = fresh ... I saw them too but didn't expect freshness to be a factor.

My first thought was why would one have to microwave them to get the squeaky effect??They should be packaged squeaky!!And I guess I would have looked to see where they were made. And alas, even really great curds fresh here in Wisconsin lose their squeak after awhile.Maybe that is what I will send you as a Wisconsin treat!!

From what I read, time is the enemy, and curds naturally morph into cheese. Hey, if you can put them on the plane, I'll be waiting at the runway!
Probably best if I can find a dairy that sells them fresh here in the Atlanta area. If anyone knows such a place, I'd love to know.

There are a few good dairies north of that area. Forfar Dairy, north of Gananoque, has a small store out front, and I always pick up a bag or two when up that way. Sadly, they don't keep well. A few seconds, 3 or 4, in the microwave will bring back the squeak, but it isn't a substitute for fresh!
