Tragedy in SC, 9 Firefighters Have Been Killed Tue, 06/19/07 3:15 PM (permalink)
I used to volunteer with our local fire department, I still take video or photos if it is a big one.

It was with great sadness I read the report of 9 Firefighters dying in a furniture store/warehouse fire, in SC.

Firefighters are an amazing breed of human being, brave enough to go running into a burning building, when everyone else is running out.
They are dedicated to protect us, our belongings, our houses.

To those of you who may be a firefighter either paid or volunteer, I thank you.

I caught that story a while ago, too. What a tragedy.

Firefighters, Cops, Soldiers - willing to put it all on the line for little praise or pay. The true face of the American Hero.

I caught the story on CNN and cried. I could never, ever, ever go into a burning building. Just let the damned thing burn and turn on the hoses.

        Very sad and tragic.

I'll be down in Charleston in a week or so and will be sure to make a donation locally. These guys died trying to salvage a bunch of furniture that was trashed from smoke almost immediately...but they were doing their job. Terrible.

Twenty-four year old son is a wildland firefighter for U.S. Forestry, and volunteer with our city fire department. Story really hits home. He has been working the fires in Florida for about a month & just called home. We told him this tragic news just a few minutes ago. Sympathy to these families & this town.

My heart goes out to those firefighters, their families, friends, and co-workers.

I work for a paper in Upstate SC and working with firefighters is one of the highlights of my job. They're helpful, fun, and always glad to hear from me, which can be a rarity for a reporter.

              An awful tragedy.

front page of today's Washington Express (commuter paper put out by the Washington Post) had a picture of the mourning fire fighters. Sad indeed.
