I am looking for a good place to eat in Indianapolis, Indiana. I don't want another chain restaurant. I want something unique to that area.

Thanks Alot

I'd take a look at the following two old threads
    http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=467
    http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4083

and then take a look at the following reviews on this site
    Indianapolis: http://www.roadfood.com/Search/SearchResults.aspx?ps=1&s=IN&c=Indianapolis&kw=&ob=ri.restaurantname
    Indiana: http://www.roadfood.com/Search/SearchResults.aspx?ps=1&s=IN&c=&kw=&ob=ri.restaurantname

keep in mind that most of the reviews include a mapquest link, so you can determine where the place is relative to where you'll be

I'd then take a look at the Indiana listings at Hollyeats

two websites sum up Indianapolis in a nutshell
      www.doddstownhouse.com
      www.hollyhockhill.com

Although more attention has been given to Dodd's town house lately, I think the Fried Chicken at Holly hock Hill are just a notch above Dodd's!

One of my all-time favorites is Berringer's Tavern just south of the downtown area on S.Meridian St. It's an old place and their tenderloins--grilled or breaded are simply the best. Way better than the gas station down the way that's supposed to be so good.

I dug this out of my short file of Indy restaurants to try on my next trip. Has anyone out there been to Yat's?

My wifw-e, son and I ate at the Mug and Bun near Speedway kin July. Root Beer was out of this world, the tenderloin sanwich first rate. One of the best meals we had on our m idwestern trip.

A year ago we hosted a rehersal dinner at Holly Hock, great food and a terrific staff. The Rathskeller is reviewed here, interesting place but I was disappointed in the food. When in Indy, we always go to a BW3 for a variety of wings; but that's our taste. You can always go to almost any place in Broad Ripple on a friday or saturday nite, great area.

I have a couple of comments. Mug N Bun's tenderloin sandwich has been disappointing the last couple of times I've been there. For some reason they have changed something, but not for the better. Their root beer is still first rate though. For a very good deli, try Shapiro's just south of downtown on Meridian St. The Rueben is over 8 bucks but its more than I can eat, and I can eat alot. Lots of cheesecakes and other desserts to choose from also. Besides Yat's, another cheap cajun place is Gumbo A-Go-Go on 86th St. across from St. Vincent Hospital.I like their debris sandwich and jambalaya. For fried chicken, I like the Kopper Kettle in Morristown, about 30 minutes from downtown. I prefer it to Dodds or Hollyhock.
