Picked up a piece of Prime Tri Tip for $6.99/lb. Let it sit at room temperature for an hour then rubbed it with olive oil and a mixture of kosher salt, garlic salt, and ground black pepper. After grilling I covered with foil and let it rest for about five minutes. The potatoes were sliced and foiled with onions & butter then baked in a 400º oven for one hour. Threw together one of my whatever is in the refrigerator salads and we were good to go.

I miss tri-tip. It is a good steak that works well with marinades. What you made was what I knew to be BBQ while I lived in CA. This was before BBQ was ursurped by those southern states....
I still have a hard time justifying smoking a brisket for hours when compared to a nice juicy tri-tip.

I always try to get the biggest tri-tip in the cooler so I have leftovers to throw in the fridge, chill down, then shave for french dip sandwiches.
