My gift for the drawing was hand picked by me! We drove quite a few miles to procure it as it is not available even in local stores but is a regional product........and something that I remember well from my childhood! So are you saying we should wrap it and then label the package so everyone knows what is in it?

No, Wrap it if you wish, but the only ID I think the prize needs is to help the distributor avoid the "Alcohol to Minors" problem (if it is wrapped). We only have a couple of young folks coming, so it isn't a big deal. I just wanted to avoid any difficulties with the prizes!

The Weather has changed to finally bring some winter to this area, so plan for it to be in the 20's (night) and 30's (day). But after a dusting of snow over the weekend we have bare ground and lots of sunshine now with todays high to be 40. The long range forecasts from all the local services say more of the same for the next week. We have 30 folks on the check-in list for Moonlite. The Brown Hotel the night before we see about 10-12 in attendance. It looks to be a very nice "happening". Anyone needing directions to either or both locations let us know.
We are really getting excited about meeting all of you (again). I have yet to be at one of these gatherings, or read about one that I couldn't get to, that wasn't a really great event.

We are looking forward to it! Snow is about the only thing that could stop us, we don't like to travel far if there is snow or if it is forcast......

It sounds like a great get together. For all of the first-timers, you're in for a real treat. I've been part of 4 Roadfood get togethers and they are the greatest vehicle for building comraderie.

I understand the conflicting travel priorities you have, but I sure wish you and Jane could be here. I know you guys would really have a good time, and there are a number of folks who would be glad to see (or meet) you. I think these meetings go a long way at helping us all over the hurdles that sometimes arise using the "net only" for communications.

With fond memories of our Philadelphia gettogether that featured the Reading Terminal Market, Gail and I rrived at that plce on January 9th to find the Italian Sandwich places closed - we arived at 3:10- they close at 3pm. So, we said, OK, we'll have a couple dozen oysters on the halfshell- no luck, "Nobody here opens oysters on Monday.!" So we wound up at a fried chicken joint in the market (Josies?) and had the absolutely greatest fied chicken we have ever had the luck to eat, That place is fabulous, the chicken is super! And we washed it down with a root beer float from the stall across the aisle. It was a wonderful visit.

We are booked into the Comfort Inn Suites for Friday and Saturday. If anyone else will be in O'boro on Friday evening we would be delighted to meet up for dinner with them - also for Saturday morning breakfast.

And, is it possible to tour a local distillery on Saturday? Does anyone have info on that question?

And, we met up with and had a very pleasant lunch with Kristi S, here in St Petersburg yesterday- big deli sandwiches at the "Lucky DFill".

Unfortunately the "Pretty" distilleries with the classy tours are in the Bardstown area about 2 hours east of Owensboro. They have really neat tasting rooms and all kinds of good stuff to buy at their gift shops etc. (Heavens Hill, Makers Mark, Jim beam etc)

In Owensboro BARTON Lmtd distills a good working-class Bourbon in a location on the east side of town, right on U S 60. It isn't a "pretty" place, but they produce some reasonable Bourbon (one will be a door prize). I don't know if they have tours, but I am sure you can find out at your Motel. Poverty Pete, Mr & Mrs Bushie, and the Reverend Rick and wife and some others will be in that area Friday evening and Saturday, so I am sure you can hook up with some folks.

I'll be in Owensboro Saturday morning, so count me in! I'm staying at the Day's Inn

OK, We bailed my wife out of the Hospital this afternoon (after a 3 day stay) and now can get serious about planning and preparation for Next week.
Friday evening, the 17th, at 6:00PM (Eastern Time) those who wish to join us should meet in the Thoroughbred Lounge in the Brown Hotel in Louisville to meet and greet AND enjoy the sandwich that has been identified with Louisville for ages. We hope we have a good representation from the Roadfood Folks. I have received RSVP's from 12 people and we will reserve a table for 12 early next week for the Friday event. If you think you would like to attend the Supper-meeting please let me know here or by email and I will be happy to add you to the list. Weather forecast as of now for next friday is 35-40 degrees and 30% chance of RAIN.

Much has been said of the Moonlite BBQ so I will be brief. We will meet at the Moonlite Saturday at 3:00PM (Central Time). Since there are 30 or more of us, getting to the tables, signing the visitor's sheet and getting you nametags etc will take a little while. Since it is a Buffet, members will enjoy the freedom to choose and move about a bit more than if we were ordering off the menu and having food brought to us. When most folks are finished with their meal we will distribute the 'Door Prizes' using a ticket drawing sort of thing. There will be a table set up for your contribution to the door-prizes. Based on our experiences at the crabfest this is a great time for meeting folks and getting to know your fellow members.When the meeting finally breaks up some folks may be continuing their socialization in smaller groups at their local hotels.

I know some folks who will be heading directly to Owensboro are planning a Saturday Breakfast and those folks plus some others will be looking at a Sunday morning breakfast also. Check the thread that Z66Butch has on the Misc Off-topic forum for info about those two meetings. If you have ANY questions please ask on this forum or by email.

I have received a email from Iwannago and I will pick her at the Louisville airport and we will be at the Brown Hotel for the evening 6:00PM for the hot brown. I will drive from there to The Residence Inn in Evansville.

I will be in Evansville Friday afternoon to Saturday morning spending time with Mrs. Bushie's family. Not sure how available I will be, but I have everyone's number in my phone.

All except Seafarer's. For some reason, every time I try to enter a liberal's number into my phone, it gets rejected.

I guess we will be square as we wll be at the Brown Hotel doing he hot brown thing.

looks like "company manners" at the Brown Hotel. Guess I'll change once I get to town because I hate driving while wearing dressy clothes. I am getting so excited to meet everyone!

I asked the manager about the dress code thing. He said the GRILL is dressy but the LOUNGE is not as formal, He called it casual. I saw a number of folks in "Dockers and Golf Shirts" and "Ladies slacks and sweaters" This was at 10:00AM in the CAFE. The manager pointed them out and said that what we saw would be "quite appropriate". I do not think it is a jeans and tee-shirt location!. Hope that doesn't discourage anyone.

I'm sorry we wont be ath the Brown hotel for hot Browns, but I'm relieved to know we wont have to pass inspection for "appropriate" dress code in order to enjoy that strange and unique concoction.

As for Evansville, sorry, we wont be able to do that either. After driving all day to get to Oboro on Friday, we aren't up to driving on to Evansville and back that evening. The invitation to martinis and jazz is certainly tempting- two of our favorite things- but I'm comforted to know that PP can keep tha Neanderthal from Texas in line for the evening.

You just eat your grits and warm milk Friday night and save your strength for the endurance test at the Moonlite. I will do my best to run interference for you in the buffet line, but you must anticipate that the Neandrthal may attempt to block your reach for the Mutton "Oysters"!! Your door-prize is waiting.

I was just informed that Rick Flynn and his wife will not be able to attend due to her executive position at the hospital where she works. We will miss them.

You never supposed it was because we have a "Do Not Allow" on all those danged Conservative phones for our numbers!!

Glad to hear I don't have to dig out the panty hose then! Slacks & a sweater are no problem! Oh I do need this break to do something fun just for me. Work is being a big old drag lately! See y'all at the Brown on Friday!

OK For the Friday evening HOT BROWN Group... We have reservations for 6:00pm in the Lounge. When you enter ask for the 'Bowen' Party. I will also use Roadfood group as an Identifier when we get there.

We heard today from Tumbleweed 365. She is up near Dayton Ohio. She finaly got her schedule cleared so that she can attend the Saturday Meeting at the Moonlite BBQ. Nice person, we met at our Jungle Jim Walk around last Fall. So we add another to the "BE There" list.
