Sundancer,

I thought I would send another message. I have been gone so long that I had to refresh my memory on how to use the website. Just wanted to assure you received my message. I hear the gang is headed to Ky and wanted to give you a heads up that I may be able to hook up with you all. Once you get more info, let me know and I will determine if I can be there. Would love to see Al, Janice, and Poverty Pete again.

Take care,

Iwanago!

That sounds workable. If anyone is interested, I'm thinking about imposing on my friend in Evansville to let me take over his brewery one day next month, to brew a lager that would be ready for that weekend.

Poverty, how about telling us more about what kind of brew you would be mixing up. That would be a treat to have some home brew from one of our own

Hell, we may not even be able to get out of Evansville

What I have in mind is one that I used to make, sort of a cross between an American and German lager. I use a 35% corn adjunct, the palest malt I can get, then use Spalter hops in one early addition to bring it to 20 IBU. It's nothing too extravagant, but I've been wishing for some lately, and there is nothing on the market even close to that profile.

PETE-
If you get to create this nectar, How will you package it for the celebration...a 55 gallon drum? Should we enlist some of artists to create a special label for the 'vintage'?
Mayor

IWANAGO- We hope you can arrange your schedule to participate in this get-together. Janet & I look forward to swapping stories with you again.

I guess you could make labels, but it won't be bottled. If I do it, I'll bring a 1/2 barrel, enough to go around.

One Iron,
Will you check with Bosley to see if BYOB is acceptable to them? I've not done that in Owensboro.

You guys keep calling it home brew. I'm a trained professional, and if I make this, it won't be on my kitchen stove. Itwill be filtered and kegged. The big difference between this and what you can find in a package store, is that mine will taste better.

Now Poverty, you know we are not professional and trained in the terminology

I really look forward to enjoying your professional made and brewed beer.

The trip sounds great to me! I will see if Bobs2 ( my brother) can also make the trip. I had diiner on Friday night at Hays Smokehouse before going to a high school football game in Lexington, Tn. It was great as usual and Dennis said to say hi to the Roadfood gang.

Two Bobs: Hays is the most enjoyable BBQ place I have ever visited. A close second is some I have visited with Bushie in Texas. Dennis certainly makes that visit number one. I hope you can do the Moonlight in Owensboro.

No can do, Mr Mayor Sir....I have two small cildren and a wife who questions my intellect and sanity over why I'd drive to chicago for a roast beef sandwich when we have an Arby's just down the street.

I'll testify to Pete's knowing the right places to go for good chow in Nashville. I won't forget those 45 oz Margaritas for awhile !

Here's an example of a good Buffet Plate from our target destination- The Moonlite BBQ. Please notice the Pickled Beets on the side dish and that's the famous Kentucky Burgoo in the cup on the left! We have never had a bad meal from the place.

1. Don't knock it til you've tried it.

2. You can order off the menu like the old people who come in on the tour buses do, if that makes you feel any more 'Individualistic'.

3. Ever hear of Dillards, or Mary Bobo's or the New Orleans House... and a slew of other fine AYCE type locations? I am not interested in a philosophical debate over terminalogy... I like the place, and apparently thousands of other customers do too. Is there better BBQ in the world, Probably. Is this a good place for friends to gather to have a good time and sample some very good 'Owensboro Style BBQ' while enjoying the company of others...Yes Indeed it is.

I feel like the guy in the ad that's currently running. "It should be BBLT. Bread bacon lettuce tomato."
"No, bread is a given. and condiments don't get their own letter..."
Who made the rule that buffets can't be roadfood? Does this mean I can't eat at Claudia Sanders on Sunday anymore?

Yhers an Amish buffet up the road from thats a good a roadfood worthy place as exists!! Now a BAD buffet, like poor chinese buffets that are ruining so much "chinese food" in this country--or some of the chain buffets that i have seen---thats ugly---but GOOD buffet is a food freaks delight!!! My Italian family caters and beleive me---the buffer that WE put out is awesome!

Theedge: I have attached the website for Moonlight for your review. I suggest you visit this place. I have heard about it for years from The mayor and others who have visited it. I visited this huge place myself several weeks ago and although I did not have the opportunity to do the buffet, I wish I had. I was traveling through Owensboro to meet up with Bushie, Poverty, The Mayor and Janet. Pogophiles and others. I got a mutton sandwich and a pork sandwich.

The place is definately roadfood material and in fact is probably a classic roadfood place.

Navigate the website and I am sure you will want to visit.

Ok, this is torture appropriate for Halloween....I just got the Roadfood newsletter and it says the Sterns are planning a New England trip in May. I wanna do both!! I don't know if we can pull it off...I guess it depends if the NE trip is at the end of May. Also depends if we're talking MA, New England or ME, New England. Big difference in the drive time for us. We would probably fly down south, so looking at airfares too...doing some research...will keep you posted...Sue

Roadfooders and Glee Club BBQ Fans: NOTICE!
As I suspected, because of legal concerns, BYOB will not be permitted on site. We may have to try the "home brew" somewhere else.
