Trip through Wisconsin Dells with family

Yep, we're heading to this tourist area early next month with the family. A search of the forums here turned up this thread.... http://www.roadfood.com/F...p;high=Wisconsin+Dells Does anyone have any other suggestions or feedback? On the way, driving up from St. Louis; Cozy Dog in Springfield is an option for lunch; been there several times, and it's neat little place..... Thanks!

Stayed in the Dells in June. Some of the places are really tourist-trappy. I wouldn't suggest the Paul Bunyan Cook Shanty unless you want to sit at a family sized picnic table with a bunch of screaming kids that you don't even know and eat medicore food. I went to the places below and was very pleased. 1) www.monksbarandgrill.com/wisconsindells -Excellent, excellent hamburgers and fun atmosphere. My family loved it and it's a real bar. (Keep in mind that WI is all non-smoking now, even taverns) 2) www.sarentosrestaurant.com -Best pizza we had in town. Nice thin type crust and lots of toppings. Tasted very, very good. Not like the frozen style pizza you get most places in the Dells. 3) www.fieldsatthewilderness.com -On the grounds of the Wilderness Resort and Waterpark (very large complex). Top class steakhouse. (Think inches deep prime rib and warm towels for you at the end of the meal). Food was GREAT and the atmosphere was awesomely classy (they don't require suit and tie considering it is in the Dells, but you feel like that would be appropriate there). http://www.monksbarandgrill.com/wisconsindells http://www.sarentosrestaurant.com/ http://www.fieldsatthewilderness.com/

Believe it or not, Monks actually makes a very good Cuban sandwich as well.

I'd believe it. Everything we had there was excellent. It's fun to watch the grill cook while sitting at the bar.

We've enjoyed Monk's store in nearby Baraboo many times. Good sandwiches and other lunch goodies.

Grillman, if you have reservations at the Island Resort you might want to read this... Brad

That would be a rude awakening. Never heard of the Island Resort. Always stay at The Wilderness. Nice place. One more thing I thought of, the Goody-Goody Candy Company store in downtown Dells is awesome. If you can't find a sweet treat there, you might as well give up. They also had really good ice cream (according to my daughter and husband).

In the past we've enjoyed visits to the House of Embers and the Del-Bar. Even if you don't want to eat there I suggest stopping at the Del-Bar for a drink just to check the place out; the atmosphere and architecture are very cool. Brad

Consider this another vote for Monk's. Also: my wife and I enjoyed dinner at a place called "Taste of New Orleans".
