David,

It is very rare that names are put on the tropies. You found one of the better ways to verify who won by looking at the contest websites. You can also go to www.kcbs.us for contest results going back a few years. That is if the contest was a KCBS sanctioned contest.

===I'll drop a line to Dr. BBQ and no need for comping anything, I've always enjoyed my meals and the people there. ===

That was my basic idea that at the very least, they would ask for you to come back. But you are correct, as the comp sounded and was something that comes out of our "I want satisfaction or my money back." attitude.***

I think that trying those deep fried ribs would have filled you up and killed your appetite. There is only so much fried stuff that you can take. It's everywhere....

Regarding the trophy, I do have to relate one story. The owners hired a new chef and immedietely posted all these awards that he won at various competitions. None of these represented that he won these at any previous restaurants where he worked. It just seemed like a bit too much hyperbole. He stayed for four months.

But winning a prize is important and that cannot be denied. I still like to brag that I came in second place at the Marin County Chili Cook-off, losing to George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch and the Beanpot Trophy sits prominently in my kitchen.

***That's why I shop at Aldi, they offer double the money back.

Hype that borders on lying. When I finally get to Southern Hospitality, I will read the plate on that trophy. My point is that people who walk into the restaurant will that THAT RESTAURANT won the trophy. But, it could not have, because the restaurant only opened in 2007, not 2005. I would like to know if someone parted with that trophy, and why. Here in the NYC area, you often see puff pieces for this restaurant in the media. They don't talk about the food, they talk about the fact that celebrities eat there or that Justin Timberlake is a part owner. And as Billyboy has noted, there are better BBQ places in NYC.

That trophy belongs to me. www.drbbq.com if you'd like to know a little more about me. I began working for SH January 2nd of 2008.
