Tubular or hollowed out buns Mon, 03/14/05 9:28 PM (permalink)
A fella emailed me asking if I knew anywhere that had a dog like he had found in Vienna and Calgary... It's a sausage in a french roll with a hole cut into it. That seems to be a pretty efficient way to eat dogs. The mustard wouldn't leak! Does anyone know of dogs like this?

Thanks
Steve

        Steve,

Check the photo page, one row from the bottom(man on left & family picture with little girl holding a Pukadog). Puka Dog was also featured on a either the Food or Travel Channel with a complete story of how they make their buns, dog, and unusual condiments.

I saw a food show that featured Puka Dogs..they look interesting! I wish I had access to those special buns they use in New England.. we just have the regular boring kind here...

Years ago my grandad would cut the end from a torpedo roll, hollow out the center then stuff with sausage peppers, onions and redsauce. It can be tricky hollowing out the roll but it sure cuts down on the drippage from a messy sandwich.

I saw that special about Puka Dogs on Food Network. I like how they hollowed out the bun, then had this soldering iron looking setup to grill the inside of the cut out..
