Why not? Although I don't happen to care for texture of African lion meat it is quite flavorful. I do like mountain lion meat, though.

I don't know if they are actually endangered, but as far as I'm concerned we need more lions more than we need more lion tacos.  I hope this "experiment" fails miserably.  Even Roadfoodies should have higher goals than to eat everything.

African lions are neither endangered nor threatened.

Michael, are you sure?  You are very good about wildlife and perhaps the best I have ever known however it appears that less than 21,000 remain at several years ago.  You know your stuff though.

I'm sure Paul. As a matter of fact I recently was invited to hunt plains game, including lion, in South Africa this year. I had to turn down the invitation for various reasons. But if the lion was either threatened or endangered it would not be legal to hunt them, and it would not be legal to import their hides into the United States.

              Thanks for the fact, Michael.

Yes, I wouldn't want to see horse meat tacos, either.

I repeat: For me this is not a question of how near to extinction we have driven this magnificent animal. There are niether as many lions nor as much lion habitat as I wish there were and the only way I approve of their being hunted is with a camera. Turning them into a version of fast food from a human culture that exists nowhere near lion habitat is offensive to me. The rest of you have to make your own judgement.

The lions have been called off.  "Bryan Mazon, the owner of Boca Tacos and Tequila, said Monday that his Tucson eatery has received 'many threats' against the restaurant, family members, customers and vendors since he announced last week that he was taking prepaid orders for the exotic tacos."

Residents of Tucson are not shy and the law says you can enter the restaurant to discuss your views packing.

                            Let me guess.
                            It tastes like chicken

Nope. Not at all like chicken.

When I mentioned this to my wife she said "only in America, in China people would be lining up around the block to get into the place."

I mentioned it to her because we recently received a book called "Rewilding" about a foundation ran by her ex-college roommate to save Chinese tigers.
