MacTac - I think you nailed it - Olive loaf falls into those food groups that include processed cheese, vienna sausage, potted meat,etc, that food elitists look down their noses at, and it becomes a "secret" people are embarrassed about liking. This olive loaf was hard to find, I didn't set out to deliberately buy a high end brand, and was beginning to think they didn't make it anymore until I stumbled on Boar's Head, and to think the only way I'd eat it as a kid was to pick out all the olive slices.
