Head straight up Rt. 1 to York,ME for Wild Willy's Burgers.
Home cut french fries, burgers, and milk shakes are a part of this simple menu.
Owner Steve Williams believes in simple concepts-this place serves only flame grilled burgers and an odd grilled chicken breast, but nothing else.
Steve Williams is also a partner in a Portland,ME downtown restaurant (in Monument Square)called Henry VIII, which serves nothing but sliced roast beef sandwich variations-again simple, but effective and mighty tasty. The roast beef is sliced by hand.
By heading up Rt. 1, you will drive by several Roadfood favorites, including Flo's Hot Dogs, Stonewall Kitchen, and Bob's Clam Hut. (see their reviews by searching under ME).
Lucky Bishop has already posted in a forum, and Heather (wife) and I also recommend The Friendly Toast for breakfast, right there in Portsmouth's Market Square.
Also highly recommended are Gilley's Lunch Wagon-nice homemade burgers, and the Portsmouth Brewery.
Personally, I love Portsmouth and tried to move there myself several years ago, but the housing prices were ridiculous.
