Hello all ,

Excellent trip report and photos . Glad you all had a wonderful time .
Michael , if you want to see some folks devour hot dogs about 40 of us make our annual pilgrimage on the Jersey Hot Dog Tour coordinated by myself and John Fox every Sept. You have an open invitation.
And I see the Chiliman is in the house , had the good fortune of meeting him in Cherlotte at 4th and Tryon I do believe. You are in for a treat getting together with him.

My first dog with slaw and chili was back in 2003 at Herlockers just outside Charlotte. Now closed and torn down for a mall I think it is the location of a famous scene in Dale Earnhardts " 3" movie . We actualy sat in the booth they used .

          Dearfolk,
I second both contentions! Ever since I was first introduced to those split buns in Connecticut in 2001, I've wondered why they (like coffee milk!) never broke out of their regionality. With all the boutique bakers around, you'd think that someone would produce them hereabouts... after all, we can get Kimmelweck rolls (for Beef On Weck) from a dedicated small bakery here in Athens.

to Benzee and Hot dog king..
I,and I think I speak for Jim, that we surely do NOT know how you do up to 8 stops with weenies in one day.
We, (Jim and I), were so up to our neck from 3 stops, but I bet we could have done more...
(heh....maybe)-- we were kinda pushing it, but we think, with practice, we could do a few more stops)..
Check us out in the next couple weeks,... maybe NancyPalooza and Matilda, and maybe others can join us, as we have many other stops to make,,)
              Right?..Jim?.. Jim?... uh, CaptMorgan?...
Uh, he must be sleeping..... All I can say, is that about 4 hours after our god(uh, typo here)-- DOG fest... fest, I did hit chick fila, and ate a chickie sandwich, as I was in NO mood to cook.

I am so craving Pimento Cheese......

CaptM, asked the same question as you.

And it turns out, that a HOG pickle is just one of those giant WHOLE Dill pickles that you get at a real deli..
                (and NOT a half sour)---
I think it made The EL Captitan shiver with delite when the Hot Dog Queen described it to him)

Tara did you really eat more last night? I counted and I think
I ate 5 hotdogs yesterday in 2 hours. I don't even want breakfast yet!

Hey ya'll Tara is hoot to meet...we fell in like old pals...you always
wonder about meeting people from the internet, and I'm surprised Tara
even took me up on my offer to do this, but neither one of us drug the
other out in the woods and killed us.

I thought this was a real hoot and can't wait to continue our hunt.
For folks who've read over the years here about these little ventures,
find someone and do it! It's fun, but you have to have someone else who
likes it as much as you do so you can discuss the finer points hot dogs
                      and hog pickles!

I agree Scorereader! Actually a hot dog tour anywhere would be great! Thanks for sharing those tour pics Captain & Tara..
That DC dog looked great... As much as I prefer a decent chili dog, there's those days a 'raked thru the garden' dog works here. The Spicy Jim looked good also, but I prefer my jalapeƱos to be chopped up, but then thats just me...
That close up Captain Morgan did of the chili dog at Hot Dog Queen scares me. Looks like no spice at all added to the chili sauce. Seems they don't care about the chili dogs, must have something better there being their signature item.
Then you really have to show respect to a tour that hits up a hot dog cart! Thats pure classic... But that Phil, I'm wondering if thats really CowboyBob with his stache trimmed down?

we haven't found a good chili yet, but Hot Dog Queen and Burky's
                                      were acceptable.

Captain... Maybe I'll have to mix up a batch of my dog sauce and ship it down to Tara.. That and some NC Koegles to go with them! See if my stuff compares with anything down south there...

Actually, Vic-- that wasnt their Chili dog, but their "Spicy dog."
I guess it would be said Chili dog without the "jap's.."..

But thats their chili, and although I did like the consistancy of it, the taste wasnt to my personal liking....

With more places to hit, I am sure we will find a decent chili to report on.. and hopefully some more "off the wall" weenies.

I do want to hit that place in NC.. I bet we can find others "on the border"...and in NMB/Cherry Grove/Little River..

Thinking back here, I was suprised to see so many Sabretts on the menus..

"japs?" I'm sure you mean jalepeno's; and the second world war was over a long time ago, but, I may still be missing something.

I got deleted once on another board for using japs for jalapenos,
and I'm not even in the industry! Is japs a bad word anyway?

I could say jals and I'm not sure anyone would know what I mean.
It could be me though, I don't mean any offense, and I'm sure Tara
doesn't either. I didn't find her to be that kind of person at all.

However, if it is offensive to refer to jalapenos as japs, I don't mind
                                                not using the term.

Chill out Matilda.. Japs are shorthand just about everywhere (food service wise) for JalapeƱos. WW2 is over? Huh, I must have been under a rock for the last 60 years...

"Japs", "86", "all day", "on the fly", etc and so forth are regular food service lingo and I think are generally acceptable to most everyone, plus it is so hard to fit a full sized human on a hot dog, even if they are demure or petite.
