Nice article, they did pick 10 winners as far as I'm concerned. MikeS.

Well harrumph! I thought the way the 2006 list started out it was going to be 10 iconic Northeastern American foods. The lists are misnamed - they should be '10 iconic regional American foods.' Lobster rolls are almost unheard of down here; I don't think I've ever seen Shoo-Fly pie on a menu here and I doubt I've ever had 'real' San Francisco sour dough bread -- though I've heard of all of them. I liked the 2005 list a little better than the 2006; both got me to thinking what the list of iconic foods of Texas would be (or Louisiana, Indiana, etc.)

Great list, maybe the lobster sandwich was made popular before the meat hit $25 a pound!

Not a great list in my opinion. 20 foods over two years and they venture into the heartland twice for a hot dog and a brat? A Frito pie made from commercial processed food makes the list? Of course I am smarting. They haven't mentioned my beloved deep fried breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. ps. So I went to their site and nominated it. Maybe next year. I told them I did their homework for them. http://www.porktenderloinsandwich.com

Thanks for the links, T.J.. Interesting articles which could cause an interesting and healthy debate. One of my favorites, the Hangtown Fry, was not included , nor were pork tenderloins(as Daveydd noted) or walleye sandwiches or cornish pasties. There is always next year.

I like grits and cook them just for myself. I also love shrimp, but can't imagine them together. Guess I'll have to try them. Pat in TX
