Add Front Street Smokehouse in the Port Elizabeth section of Elizabeth, NJ--a newcomer that gives 'em all a run for the money.

Hey-- I was just checking out this forum on BBQ, and noticed the talk about Northern Florida. Personally, I'm from Indiana, the heart of pork country, but the best I ever had was in Cantonment, Florida, just north of Pensacola. Take Hwy 29 South to Hwy 90 (9 Mile Road), Turn east and look for a little roadside restaurant on your left (north side of highway) called Ray Cranford's Restaurant. You pull in this little parking lot, and you can smell the BBQ wafting up from the smoker. They have a loyal lunch following. The best thing they do is called Barbeque Bread. They take thick slice of homemade bread and actually grill it in their homemade barbeque sauce and make a great sandwich out of it, by placing the meat on the bread. If I am within 100 miles of this place, I go out of my way to stop there. It is wonderful!

In addition to their outpost in GA, they have a competition team and are ranked something like #2 in the world among the elite competitive BBQers. Several previous posts have suggested that Jack's was a huge disappointment after all the publicity their competition team had gotten. Haven't been there yet, but fortunately there are still many other que joints which have gained accolades from our many roadfooders again and again (e.g., Hays, Moonlite, etc). quote:Originally posted by cornfed I think very few nyc residents who have had real bbq around the country would consider the New York bbqs in the same league. As a former New Yorker, all I can say is that is truely an understatement. Having been to 4 on that list, "good bbq" in NY is like "good Italian" in say Tennessee, it just won't happen. And no, BBQ Spaghetti is not Italian, however it's damned good though!
