USMC request for positive messages Wed, 06/20/07 9:06 PM (permalink)
This request was originally posted at the www.blackfive.net website.
quote:
With combat operations in Iraq as kinetic as they've ever been, the Marines could use your support.

At Blackfive, we have been trying to improve our relationship with the Public Affairs Officers in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the requests that they had of us was to attempt to get 6,000 positive and supportive emails - one for each Marine, Sailor and Soldier in the Marine Regimental Combat Team - 6.

COL. SIMCOCK: (Chuckles.) I'll tell you what, the one thing that all Marines want to know about — and that includes me and everyone within Regimental Combat Team 6 — we want to know that the American public are behind us. We believe that the actions that we're taking over here are very, very important to America. We're fighting a group of people that, if they could, would take away the freedoms that America enjoys.

If anyone — you know, just sit down, jot us — throw us an e- mail, write us a letter, let us know that the American public are behind us. Because we watch the news just like everyone else. It's broadcast over here in our chow halls and the weight rooms, and we watch that stuff, and we're a little bit concerned sometimes that America really doesn't know what's going on over here, and we get sometimes concerns that the American public isn't behind us and doesn't see the importance of what's going on. So that's something I think that all Marines, soldiers and sailors would like to hear from back home, that in fact, yes, they think what we're doing over here is important and they are in fact behind us .

The Marines have set up a special email address to send a supportive message to the Marines is: RCT-6lettersfromh@gcemnf-wiraq.usmc.mil .

The emails are being scanned by the PAO before being printed and distributed to individual Marines.

Thank you for reading this.

Whatever your feelings about the war, how could any American not appreciate the dedication of our Marines who are doing the very best job that they can, on a mission that they were ordered to take on?? Like me (and you Pat) most of the Marines on the ground have little first hand knowledge of the "big picture" (but I sure hope that our elected leaders do). Marines on the other hand are very aware of the small picture, that is the missions handed down to platoons, squads, and fire teams. The split second decisions made by 21 year old sergents mean life or death to those in their charge. Would you offer anything but your prayers and support for that Sergeant, who BTW would be on the first plane home if he were so ordered?

tmiles: I think Pat's post should be read: "No....thank YOU." I originally read it as "thanks, but no thanks" , as I suspect you did too, but the smileys made me take another look.

I don't really think there are any Americans (well, maybe very, very few) who don't support the people of our military, no matter what they think about war. I personally am sickened by this senseless and destructive war, but I stand behind our soldiers 100%. BRING THEM HOME!

P.S. Pat: if I misinterpreted your post, please let me know and I will withdraw my comments.

That thing reads like a propaganda puff piece for Bush's big blunder. I'll continue to show my support for the boys with the big boxes of Useful Stuff I send them, but I'll not be wrapping myself in the "take away the freedoms that America enjoys" bull**** mantle while telling them lies about how happy I am that they're there.

I think you may be right.! I hope so. It reminds me of,"What's that in the road,,,a head?" We got a kick out of that back in 2nd grade.

                You didn't.

That was what the smiley was for (and the comma, cleverly placed for pause).
I thought it cool as well to be able to send an E-mail to a Marine just to say "HEY!" from home and to wish him or her a safe return. To say to them I admire their commitment and loyalty to flag and country regardless of why they're there. That it has nothing to do with how I feel about them doing their job in an impossible situation under awful conditions day in and day out.

I just hope it may help lighten the load just a little of that full load of gear he or she's packing around in temperatures hot enough to bake bread.
If it could do that just a little bit, I don't care who's agenda it feeds.

Pat - Thanks for clearing that up and participating. I'm certain the support from any of us is very much appreciated.
