I don't know about anyone else, but I don't think I'd want to patronize a place named for a body part, as is today's featured spot.

is Putz, Creamy, or Whip a part of your body? I'm not sure I understand.

Well that is the “vulgar” slang definiton. A Putz is a fool, idiot baffoon. There is a baseball field called Dick Putz Field. There is a Putz Hotel and a Putz Ford auto dealership. J.J. Putz plays for the Seattle Mariners. I think I’d rather my name be Putz than Hitler. There is a hamburger joint in Long Beach (CA) named Tomain Tommy’s. Even though I like burgers and I was a local for a while, I never went there and I think it was because of the name.

It is nonetheless a very cool place....no pun intended....a little shy of legendary here in Cincinnati, but a well loved institution, particularly by west siders But yeah, the name is indeed quite a bit unfortunate :-)

If it was good enough for Constantine and Anna Putz, who started the place, it's good enough for me.

The next time I am putzing around, I will be sure to visit Putz's place. Sounds pretty good to me. I do not Yiddish and I have found that many names always means something else someplace else. Our company went all kinds of work trying to name our prior company. Since we were world wide, they had to check in better than 100 countries to insure the name was not offensive or mean't something were not aware of. You would be amazed at what they found out. I would have never known the Yiddish definition of putz. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Smith Knoxville, TN The Sundancer is correct. My company skipped the 4th generation in a product name, going directly from Gen 3 to Gen 5, because business researchers said that 4 had a bad connotation (relating to death)in certain Asian countries. I do know the Yiddish definition of putz (and schuck) and chuckled at the name of this ice cream stand. But there is another slang meaning for each word, referring to someone being a fool. Either way, having your name infer that you are a fool or male organ is a hard way to go through life. I bet the Jr. High years were especially tough on poor old Constantine.

Now that he's a Yankee, it's my sworn duty to hate the guy, but I have to give it up for the all-time best name and nickname combo: Randy Johnson Whose nickname is..."The Big Unit." (However, the greatest sports name ever remains NASCAR driver Dick Trickle. That is just...awesome.)

Plenty: Plenty O'Toole. Bond: Named after your father, perhaps?
