Uno Chicago Grill.........YUCK!

Our school had a fund raiser where 20 percent of our check would be donated to the school if we ate at Uno Chicago Grill last evening. Well, evidentially, many children talked their parents into going there for dinner as the place was very busy. The kids had lots of fun talking to all their friends and we enjoyed visiting with the parents. Once our food arrived, it was all downhill. We ordered a deep dish pizza and what they call a flatbread pizza. Greasy?...........yes! Good tasting crusts?............no way. The crust on the deep dish pizza was ok but the flatbread crust was plain dreadful. Flavorful...........absolutely no flavor at all; no seasonings that I could detect and the cheese and other toppings all tasted the same which was BLAND. (These two small pizzas which each served 2 to 3 people cost thirty dollars which is not inexpensive.) The next time the school holds a fundraiser there, I will send them a check for twenty bucks and save my stomach. (When the waiter heard that we had never been to a Uno Chicago Grill before, he nicely presented us with a five dollar gift certificate toward our next meal there.)

Mr. Mandalay and I ate at UCG a few weeks ago. He had a burger and I had a plate of sliders (little burgers) and they weren't bad. It's a chain so it's not like my expectations were high.

I'll go for a big greasy burger if I'm there. A couple of people I work with say they do one of the better fish & chips around, but that may be just one location. Otherwise, it's a place to drink lots of beer and nibble on bar snacks (which I just don't get to do any more ). Pizza crust is leaden, soggy and greasy and the sausage always tastes rancid.

I'd eaten at the original Uno about 20 years ago, so when I saw a point open up I thought it was going to be good... the entire family thought it was poor across the board. Not worth returning to, for us. We thought it was poor even in relation to other chain restaurants. Tom

I eat lunch at our local Uno's a few times a month. IMO, they are fast and fairly good. I know of better places, but they cost more, and take longer. As far as chains go, I would put Uno's as one of the better at it's price level.

The locations of this chain in Cincinnati have for the most part (I think one remains in Westchester, and another *possibly* in Clifton) been closed down, and my two experiences in them were unqualifiedly bad.

The Clifton location changed names to "Za" when the downtown {Cincy} location did. They are both out of business. The Clifton location was much better than the downtown one, but that's not saying much. The service at the downtown Uno's was incredibly rude and bad. I believe the servers were trying to rip me off each time I was there, and I am a server!

Hello All, I've never been to one, but my daughter has visited the one in Williamsburg, Va.. She thought it was pretty good, but she's a hungry student and eating off campus is always a delight. I've flirted with the idea of visiting it for the last 2 years. Take Care, Fieldthistle

I see a couple of posters are complaning that it's greasey, are you sure it's not olive oil? Up here in Boston it's a must on a good pizza, just like any other topping you would put on. You can almost always seperate the tourists from the locals at a pizza parlor here, the tourists take the napkins and dab it on top of the pie to take up all that liquid gold. Chow Jim

Jim, know what you're talking about. This isn't a drizzle of oil on the pizza, it's an off-tasting, Crisco-like mouthfeel throughout the dough.

Chow Jim I do not think that this place even knows what olive oil is!

"I do not think that this place even knows what olive oil is!" Sure they do, at least at the one near my work. Olive oil is this can from Italy that you use as an objet d'art to decorate the dining room, next to the 10-year old stuffed cherry peppers and the amaretti tins! Just don't get it near the kitchen!

The only thing I have ever liked from my local Uno is the mint iced tea, which is quite good. Not enough to make me go though, unless I am forced.
