Upstate New York

My family and I travel often from Western MA to Buffalo to visit relatives. Most of the time we stop at Thruway rest stops for a quick meal. Does anyone have any recommendations for someplace with easy access off I-90 between Albany and say, Utica or Syracuse? We have 2 kids, 15 and 13, so nothing exotic - I'm thinking chicken wings, burgers, BBQ, etc. Thanks in advance! -Steve

I'd recommend a stop at the Dinosaur Barbecue in Syracuse. It's been a few years, but I thought it was lots of fun -- and the BBQ was good for a Northern state. Here's a link that'll give you directions from Rt. 90: http://www.dinosaurbarbque.com/cuse.htm Beyond that, even though I'm from the Buffalo area, I've been away too long to offer other recommendations with any confidence. Phil.

Thanks. I've heard of it but have never been. Not sure the kids can hold out that long before needing to eat (usually we stop before Utica), but I'm sure we can fit it in at some point. Anyone know of a place closer to Albany (preferably west of there)?

If you ever make it into far Western New York you must have a "Beef on Wik" at the Chautauqua Inn on Chautauqua Lake, NY .. simply magical!

I too suggest the Dinosaur but you may want to visit the one in Rochester. Same food but it is bigger and there is better parking opportunities. Dino here in Syracuse is very small and the wait will probably be longer.

Voss' B-B-Q, Yorkville, just outside Utica not far from I-90. There's a review on Roadfood.

Still there and although it has changed hands, it is a great place to go for a double hot dog or coney with loads of the bright yellow mustard smeared over it............old tradition with our family was that you HAD to drink a half pint of ice cold chocolate milk with it!
