Very kind of you to express this appreciation. Verbose that I may be I still appreciate it.

Fieldthistle, I would be glad to help in anyway I acn w/ your construction project. We just started on my uncle's second pit...big enough for eighty BBQ shoulders. These are the big ones, picnic shoulder w/ the Boston butt still attached, twenety five pounds each usually. It is one big b**ch.

    Uncle Vic,
Thank you so much. Kind of you to say such.

    Fieldthistle,
If certain iteems have prevented you from going completely forward w/ your plans BUT you have decided on a location...pour the foundation NOW. Concrete only gets stronger w/ age. The Roman aquaducts are getting stronger each day...interesting and almost worthless factoid from an engineer.

Almost as worthless as the fact I learned how to raise ducks for foie gras from the PTA website. You know they didn't even reply to my "thanks" email?

    Hello V960,
Thanks again. I will get working on the foundation. Riding mower died, must rent van to move daughter home from college, wife going
on spending spree, plus, I need some beer and cigs...haha I will get it done. And I mean it, once it is done, I'd like you to partake
of a meal from my grill, which you have helped me construct with your advice. Mine will not be as big as your uncle's.
Hope your growing season is doing well. Our weather has been screwy. Doesn't know to be warm, cold, wet, or dry. 80 degrees once week,
and 60's the next, day temps. Night temps from the 50's to the low 30's. Drought, then rain for a couple weeks.
Anyway, I like you, man. Keep on keeping on.
    Take Care,
    Fieldthistle

    Fieldthistle,
The foundation is something that can be done in two ways. Dig a trench and use the trench as the form. Go nuts and use boards as forms, looks so cool and then bury it...duh. Don't feel bad...it took me fifteen years to build my best pit. About one third of the pits I have built for friends have been torn down...wrong placement.

Mower died huh? My wife goes to two different Snapper dealers so neither one will know how much damage she does to the mowers. We have three Snappers, one is a thirty plus years old Comet 30, a 1433 and a 1642. She, not I, finish mows SEVEN acres. STUPID!!! We have a six foot bush hog but...oh no...the Snappers do a better job. But I ramble. I currently have the 1642 in the shop for a new main drive belt, clutch, fuel filter and oil change. The 1433 has a sheared main column shroud which I will weld and fiberglass (second time...she is rough on equipment).

    Thanks for your comments.
