Vendors in Florida or Texas Thu, 01/20/05 6:12 AM (permalink)
As some of you know my wife and I will be leaving the Boston area this spring and Will be moving to one of the two places. I have a great concession trailer being built in Texas and I will pick it up April 1st. I was wondering if anyone in here sells food in either of these places and if you could give me the pros and cons of both. I have heard that the board of health is very tough in Florida but that really does not concern me too much because I keep up with these things anyway.

My brother lives near Orlando, Fla and said cart inspection was $600.00, Mine in Pa was $103.00, Go on line, usually info is there under the proposed city. If I had my druthers I go back to Alburquerque, NM. Great weather and a lot of good streets there to locate on. Great weather too.
I also love Texas, My son lives near San Antonia. (?Spelling) I lived in Dallas for a year. Too big of a city. I like smaller cities. Good luck with your choice Ohman.

I say, you gotta' go to Texas. It's the wild west &they love meat! You've got
all kinds of climates and towns, from ocean to mountains to high plains.
From Port Aransas toSouth Padre sounds like the place you should consider.

In looking at the restaurants in PA, for instance, http://www.portaransas.org/Restaurants.asp
I see no hot dogs, 'cept for DQ. It's a neat place, as is all the Texas coast.

There are numerous street corner taco stands around Houston. I really don’t know if or how often the local board of health checks these places. But it doesn’t look like they are too particular if they do check.

Just a word of warning if you plan to relocate to Houston. The biggest faux pas you can pull here is being caught with “Slime in the Ice Machine”! Marvin will getcha for sure!

I operate a cart in florida.Go to Myflorida.com click on Business,
click on dept of bussiness and professional regulation click, on division of hotels and restaraunts. Here you will find all the state regulations. You can also look at requirements for your type of vehicle.I bought a new cart out of New Jersey,It came with four sinks. The state made me remove three of them.Don't forget every city or county has their own regulations on top of what the state requires.
              Hope this helps

i operated a cart in davenport fl. right on u.s 27 for 2 years .
                here's how the pricing goes:
plan review - $150 mailed in with application ...one time fee
upon approval you pay another $465 for the inspector to come inspect it .by the way which is the same price per year
then comes the bussiness license of which is now $52 per year.
                $5 for your tax #
hope that helped out some .
as far a texas goes ......i owned bbq rest. last year before the storms and i was open for 6 months before i even saw the inspector for the initial inspection and its free.
