I think this would quality as a non-Roadfood chain.

Looks like Village Inn/Bakers Square restaurants are in trouble:

DENVER (AP) - Vicorp Restaurants, which operates the Village Inn and Bakers Square restaurant chains, is filing for bankruptcy.

The Denver-based company said Thursday it was struggling amid the slowing economy and higher operating costs.

Vicorp filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition in a Delaware court to restructure debt obligations. It says lenders have agreed to provide $60 million in debtor-in-possession financing pending court approval.

Together with cash from operations, Vicorp says it will be able to meet obligations to employees, suppliers and partners.

The company also will close 56 restaurants and conduct an extensive review of underperforming locations as it reorganizes.

Vicorp operates 343 restaurants in 25 states under the Village Inn and Bakers Square brands.

What a bummer...Seriously. I really enjoyed the Village Inn's pancakes. They'd whip up their buttermilk pancakes in a Waring blender. Incredibly light. Been to one in St. Augustine and one in New Mexico

We had a Village Inn in Kenosha when I was little, and every year on my birthday my mother would take me there for pancakes. I remember they would bring out a caddy with 3 different flavors of syrup--blueberry, apricot & something else. They changed their name right about the time I graduated HS. They are still there, operating under a different name. They are across the street from the tech school.

The few Bakers Square restaurants I've been to had pretty decent cauliflower and broccoli soups, but this was years ago.

I was a FPM(kitchen manager) for them for about 6 months before I left Denver.
I was at the downtown store on Colfax.
Ill always remember the homeless sneaking in to warm up. One old gurl always begged a pot of hot water(tea size) from the manager. She was really sweet and had great stories!
She would take the ketch up and add the hot water and saltt pepper and make "tomato soup". And eat the basket of crackers too. She was so dainty it looked like a Japanese tea ceramony.
What can you expect off Latimer Sq. in the 80's?

Good story Britt. It is a shame that we have homeless people
especially one like the lady you describe who obviously was well breed.
Her stories must have been very interesting.

When I worked as a busboy in a very good steak and chop house in NYCity
(a zillion years ago) we had an older lady come in and sit at a linen
covered table. She ordered coffee "as a starter", she drank her coffee
and then swooped up all the rolls and butter I had put on the table, put
them in a bag, left a quarter on the table and took off.

The next night she showed up and sat at the same table with the same waiter.
He told me not to put any rolls and butter on the table. We never saw her again.

There are 8 million stories in NY and this has been only one of them.

Well, they closed the Village Inns on I-10,Fm78,and in New Braunfels according to the food section in the San Antonio Express News yesterday. However,no mention was made of the one on Pat Booker
in Live Oak,so I guess that one is still open.
