Virginia Beach + Northeastern NC

I'm going to be down in Virginia Beach for a weekend and was wondering if there were any good eats locally? I'm being threatened with the Macaroni Grill if I let the local I'm staying with pick our meal-places. Also, I'm hoping to take a day-trip to Northeastern North Carolina for some 'cue. Is there any place really worth going to within about 100-150 miles of Virginia Beach?

rstarobi, Ralph's in Weldon, N. C. is right by the interstate crossing on U. S. 150. I haven't been there in years, but my authority says it's just as good as ever. Weldon is just east of Roanoke Rapids, about 150 miles from Virginia Beach or less. Unmustardly, Ort. Carlton in Athens, Georgia.

There used to be a true roadfood restaurant in Weldon, NC that my family stopped at on our annual vacation trip from Durham, NC to Virginia Beach. The Dixie Grill had carhops and a broadcast booth on the roof for the local radio DJs. It was torn down by NCDOT to widen the highway, despite the fact that it was doing a booming business.

Breakfast/lunch at "Mary's." This is a local diner on 17th St (Virginia Beach Blvd.) a few blocks in from the ocean. For dinner, the "Coastal Grill" has fresh seafood, beef, and a local patronage. It's at 1427 N. Great Neck Rd. Frank
