Viva la Girl Scouts! Thu, 01/26/06 1:18 AM (permalink)
The order forms are circulating around my office for cookie crack Girl Scout cookies, and to my delighted surprise I found that they've introduced Lemon Coolers, which look to be the same as Sunshine's Lemon Coolers. Those were my favorite cookie as a kid (and my uncle worked for Sunshine at the time so we got loads for free) and I'm hoping these will be good. If not, I'll still have my Samoas and Tagalongs.

Thought I'd share with my fellow Roadfoodies!

Samoas for me. I had a Chinese pug several years ago. Between the two of us, we ate two boxes of them. I still like them although I cannot even do a half box now. Age, weight and HBP prevent that.

I ordered Peanut Butter Patties. Does anyone mention Thin Mints, or is it just a given that all orders contain a couple boxes? Mine did.

Thin Mints !!!!! Gotta have em!!!! I just found out that the FIRST Girl Scout Cookies were baked and sold just 20 miles from here in Muskogee Oklahoma in 1917 by the Mistletoe Troop!!--and the local troops have add a new sales twist this year--for those of you that have a health or diet problem with your Thin Mints or Somoas---you can buy a box---or 10!!--for a soldier in Irag and the Blue Star Mothers will mail it for you!---and one more little tidbit that i just picked up---A Genuine Classic Old Time Girl Scout Cookie Recipe!!!---from back when thay actually baked them!

        1 cup butter
1 cup sugar--plus addtional for topping
        2 eggs
        2 tablespoons milk
        i teaspoon vanilla
        2 cups flour
        1 teaspoon salt
        2 teaspoons baking powder

Cream together the butter and 1 cup sugar; add well beaten eggs, then milk, vanilla, flour, salt and baking powder. Refridgerate for at least 1 hour. Roll dough, cut into trefoil shapes and sprinkle sugar on top. if desired. Bake in a "quick" oven--(375)--for approximately 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges begin to brown. Makes six to seven dozen cookies.

        Enjoy

There better not be any in mine, since the only thing I like mint in is toothpaste and occasionally tea.

I've ordered mine. They changed suppliers in my area a couple of years ago. Some people say that they are not as good.....they seem the same to me.

I think last year or the year before, they had a fruity one, cant remember the name,Pina Colado or something. Those were really good, and it takes a lot for me to vary from my standard order of thin mints, pb patties and samosas.. They were so good, I had to order more..
Nothing like a PB patty from the freezer!
                Oh, I cant wait....

Salustra, I've tried the Cafe Cookies and they are pretty tasty. I love the Thin Mints and the Do-Si-Do's also. Is it my imagination or do the boxes seem to be getting smaller, especially the Thin Mints. Maybe that's a blessing in disguise for us and our stomachs!!

RE: Samoas - my Board Chair and I once demolished a box of them in my office in the space of about 5 minutes. They are dangerous. Keep them away - they awaken the cookie monster in me.

When my daughters were growing up they were both Girl Scouts and natch sold cookies always had half dozen or so {more of so} of boxes left over due to whatever reason. Well one year my wife volentered to be the cookie coordinator for our little hamlet, natually this was'nt clearly going to be a solo operation. Sometime in late January The trailer truck backed up to my barn/garage they ship that stuff General Freight and the unloading began Small community how many cases of cookies could their possibly be? My wife to this day insists that she misunderstood turns out she was the Area coordinator. Can not begin to tell you how many cases of cookies I had to deliver to different troups because troup leader was unable or too busy to pick them up here. Thought I was going to have to get a DOT license. Did learn one thing though those cookies Freeze and keep well. Chow Jim

I put my order in with one of the nurses at work who had her daughters cookie sheets. She was on her third sheet by the time she hit our floor! Thin mints for me and darling daughter,Do-si-dos for hubby.
Jim-Hubby and I were the cookie coordinators for our daughters troop way back when she was in grade school. Our kitchen was jammed packed with cases of cookies. Having a Volkswagon bus at the time helped out with the pick up and delivery of the cookies to the girls.

Whatever happened to BlueBirds and Camp Fire Girls? We thought we were way cooler, cause we got to wear blue vests and earn brightly colored indian beads instead of badges. We didn't need no stinkin' badges.

And, we sold CANDY. Mmmmm, we thought it was much better than Girl Sprout cookies.

Oh, yes. My husband brought some home when I had tonsillitis last year, and I ate the entire carton while lying in bed watching the first season of Due South on DVD on my laptop. The most fun I've ever had being sick--good ice cream and hot Mounties.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started to just pre-print the order forms with a "2" in EVERY BOX in that green column for the thin mints. I buy a few boxes every year and put them in the freezer with the intention of trying to make a pie crust out of them. I think it would be good, maybe for a grasshopper-type pie - I just have never gotten around to trying it.

Ummm, if they are just starting to sell Girl Scout Cookies, I might have been scammed. In mid-January two young boys came around with the girl scout cookie sheet and said they were helping their sister. I bought 3 Somoas and 2 Thin Mints at $3.50 a box each. Their form looked legitimate. Can anyone tell me if this was a scam?

Cookies arrived today! If you didn't pre-order, look for Girl Scouts outside your local grocery stores for the next month or so.

coming in late on this one-love thin mints and peanut butter patties. LAst year the boys loved one called treasure something-coated on one side with chocolate, rather large size. Seems like different ones are regional--we've never seen do-si-dos, any description on that one? I like the lemon pastry cremes with a cup of tea--I think they are discontinued now. Tried not to buy toomany because of my fat butt, however, thin mints rock forever.

Yes, it seems as if they have discontinued the lemon cremes in favor of the Lemon Coolers, which, sad to say, ended up being a disappointment. They had good lemon flavor, but the texture was weird, almost as if they were stale.

A 12-year old scout in my town of Round Rock sold 4500 boxes of cookies this year!

I hope you don't have to "register" to read this story. It's cute.

Worst cookies ever. But then again, I only like homemeade chocolate chip cookies, Oreos, and a few others. So what do I know.

                                                        Hi,
Well to me the Thank You's just rocked. Last year they were called something else and were square. Question: In my memory it seems to me that the thin mints were once white shortbread cookies initially. Now they are chocolate. Am I right? I love girlscout cookies. My two girls are in the troop. They are getting a tad expensive here ( $3.50 a box). The thank yous, and the lemon cookies are killer, however I do tend to overindulge in the lemon cookie area which in turn makes my stomach burn uncontrolably. But they are to good.

Yep...we always order 3 boxes of each of those...since they go too quick in our family.

Usually I would buy them at school when one of the Girl Scout Leaders that was also a teacher had extra boxes. Forgot to this year though...oh well...I'll just go back in when I have time between college classes...

I was the cookie selling queen! I still have the badge to prove it. I sold over 5,000 boxes in 1978. Pays to have a large family and a small troop to cover a large area. Of course we went door to door back then, they discourage that these days.

I like em all but thin mints and samoas are still my favorites. Thin mints have always been a mint chocolate cookie covered with chocolate.
