WELCOME TO VEGGIEVILLE ??? Fri, 02/13/04 8:08 AM (permalink)
Knowing that the group PETA has been so lovingly brought up on this site previously, I thought y'all might get a kick out of this latest, apparently paramount animal rights issue of needing to change the name of the town of Slaughterville, Oklahoma to, uh-hum:

Veggieville.

Give me a break. I suppose they want to go to the Baseball Hall of Fame and change the name of Enos "Country" Slaughter - I mean, Enos Veggie.

Living here in Oklahoma and being surrounded by some of the finest beef cattle on earth, and the folks that raise them,i have a hard time believing that this is ever gonna happen! I have nothing against vegies---as a matter of fact i slaughter them daily with delight, but i am willing to bet that the residents of Slaughterville didnt come up with this idea.I will add,for the sake of overall fairness, that i think we--Americans that is,probably do eat alot more meat then we need ot or ought to---however-- we probably eat more vegies then we should or need too!---especially when they are dripping in animal fats!!

I would pity the school district that gets the $20,000 in veggie burgers!

I seem to recall People Eating Tasty Animals pulling the same stunt with some town in Pennsylvania not long ago. I can't remember the name of the place, but it wa the same publicity grab.

As a proud Oklahoman I do hope that the good people of Slaughterville will resist the grandstanding of the peta nuts. God gave us animals to eat. I try to do my part by grilling steaks often.

PETA and the militant vegans have antagonized us carnivores for too long. They claim wild and innacurate stories to be true. They say that hunting is not sporting. Well, vegetables don't have legs. They can't run. Where's the sport in that?

Rush Limbaugh had a blast with this today. He is not a PETA fan and regularly gets on their case.

Seems the town is named after a family that ran the local general store. If it was my family o would be greatly insulted and ask for a formal apology.I have no problem with anyone voicing thier opinion but the fact is that it was NOT named Slaughter because of any slaughtering done their--animal or human or vegie--which makes PETA's argument ridiculous. Having a town named after you is a great honor and THAT should be the arguement against PETA--any arguement about meat eating vs vegitarian would only fuel these folks. The arguement for not changing it because of the family takes them off their turf. I have no problem treating animals ethically--like i have said before i think anyone who has never killed and butchered should be required to before they can buy a steak so i believe in EATING animals etically also!-i DO have one with ANYONE that wants to shove something down my throut though---and this is one time they dont have a leg to stand on!

I had heard a while back that they were trying the same thing with Frankfurt, KY. These people need to get a life.
