I order "none". I don't like potatoes very much. Just give me 2 of those big waffles, bacon & coffee, and I'm set. My wife orders her hash browns regular, and loves them.

Regular? Does that mean in the ring?

When my wife and I travel for fun, we have a rule of not eating in chain restaurants - with a few exceptions. Eating breakfast at a Waffle House is one of those exceptions. But, like Niagara, I don't order hash browns - I am just not a fan. However, I love their grits and country ham. Mike

I probably should have said "plain" instead of regular. Don't want anything on them, they're perfect just as they are. I've noticed lately that a lot of Waffle Houses have stopped using the metal hash brown ring; I wonder why ( hey, there's traditions that have to be upheld, right? )

When we went to Amish country in Lancaster this past saturday,we changed our usual breakfast routine and did not eat ,as we always do ,at the rt. 30 Waffle House, and instead went to the local Windmill Restaurant where many said a good breakfast was served and a good value...all true...but not like our usual stop at the Waffle House. Missed their hashbrowns....next time it's back to the WF!!

By "regular", I meant plain, too. Sometimes I order one waffle & grits.

I like mine scattered, smothered and peppered. Sometimes I'll add covered.

Pigiron The last time I was at a Waflle House (which, hopefully will be my last visit) they were scooping their "hash browns" out of something that looked like a giant milk carton that read something like "SHREDDED POTATO PRODUCT". Yum. Would you consider hash browns a shredded potato product? If not, then what do you consider them?

I stopped order them years ago when it hit me that I couldn't tell the difference between the hash browns, eggs cooked in a bath of oil and the toast coated in a greasy substance.

Typically for breakfast, it's scattered and smothered. With a couple eggs over hard, topped with hot salsa, plus dry wheat toast and jam, washed down with coffee, that's a great breakfast. If I'm eating them for lunch, a double order all the way, especially in the winter time, is a great quick filling meal.

Scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, diced, and peppered. I'm weird like that.
