Waffle House Resurrection

The old Waffle House on South Blvd. near Woodlawn in Charlotte that was closed by the health department is re-opening. After being closed last year, it was completely gutted of everything. Even the signs were removed. Now there's a brand new sign on the side of the building and I saw permit cards in the window.

I wonder if the Mayor will be there for a ribbon cutting?

No mayoral ribbon cutting, but I believe they found an unemployed derelict to throw a ceremonial bucket of grease on the walls. O.K., O.K., that was uncalled for and I'm just kidding anyway.

True to the subject of this thread, Waffle House fans soon will be able to celebrate the tip posted at RoadsideAmerica.com: Decatur - Avondale Estates, Georgia - Waffle House #1 It appears Waffle House has regained the property of the original #1. No longer a Chinese Restaurant, it's in the process of renovation. It's coming along quite nicely and should be open in about a month or so. [Lucy Pfeffa, 05/04/2008] [RA: A giant development in the world of Waffledom if true. Waffle House No. 1 opened in Avondale Estates in 1955. If this restaurant does add historic exhibits, Waffle House will finally have a permanent place for historical bragging (in 2005, their 50th Anniversary exhibit was hosted at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta.]

If I ever attend a wedding at Waffle house I want them to serve me two eggs over easy, smothered & covered hasbrowns, and rye toast. My standard order at Waffle House.

That picture gets more use then an outhouse. I've seen it accredited to a whole mess of different events. I still laugh when I see it. It was taken 2 blocks from my house.

Personally I enjoy the Waffle House. I have never found them greasy and I like that they cook to order. They do hashbrowns right. I have never had anything at a WH except breakfast. Great steak and eggs also. I get into Charlotte on a very frequent basis. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Everyone picks on Waffle house, myself included. No one can do Hash browns like they do. Around here we call them " the awful waffle" The cooks and waitstaff work mighty hard to serve the masses. Remember people they make Breakfast anytime, The menu says they have Salads and other items, But that is only for the inexperienced Waffle house diner. When its 4am and you are on the road hungry, they are always there, You know what to expect and the prices are good.

Our family loves Waffle House for breakfast. A few years ago I had the misfortune of going into a very dirty looking and smoky one in Harrisonburg Va and that turned me off for a while. But I have been to many different ones since then and they have all be great. With the friendly waitstaff, it sure is a cut above most breakfast places. Rye toast is my favorite but they do not have it here so have to choose between Texas toast or raisin toast, white toast or wheat toast.

I'm a pretty experienced Waffle House diner, and I could not possibly disagree more. While I avoid all salads because they are just mostly green bits of poison for human beings -- and I assume Waffle House salads are no different -- I've found their hamburgers, patty melts, BLTs, steaks, chops and soups to be excellent.
