True Michael! Oh, and jalapenos!

I love the pecan waffles at WH. Such a great flavor!

    That's the "peppered."

      I have nothing wrong with eating a porkchop for breakfast.
      I just never seen it on a menu. I may have to frequent more Waffle Houses, they are more than just waffles, I guess.

      Pork chops are pretty much standard breakfast fare down here in the Republic of Texas.

        Presently, I'm curious if they work with fresh ground beef, frozen then thawed pre-formed ground beef, or frozen discs thrown on the grill.  Each of these present varying implications and prep/cooking challenges for your medium rare preference.

        In any case, I'm looking forward to my lunch tomorrow.

        I'm guessing that it comes in frozen and is then thawed in the cooler. I know it's not frozen when they take it out to throw it on the flattop.

        Edit: I forgot. If you don't want the letuce and tomato tell them to hold the garden. Although as I understand it people in texas don't think it's a burger if it doesn't have those things.

        O.K.!  I had my first Waffle House burger today for lunch and it was good.  I had them hold "the garden" and serve mine with chopped, grilled onions.  I sopped up a puddle of Lea & Perrins Steak Sauce with it and truly enjoyed the meal.  I truly had it "my way".

        Indeed, their burgers are thawed-out pre-formed patties; but, they are of good quality for such -  good consistency/texture/taste.  And, it was fairly priced: $5 for a 1/4# cheeseburger "my way", hash browns, and a "bottomless" Coca Cola that seemed to be wonderfully "tweaked" with a little richer syrup mix that reminded me of the old drug store fountains of my youth.

        All that said, Five Guys' and Waffle House burgers are "apples and oranges".  Both are very good for what they are.  And, most certainly, I prefer Waffle House's ambiance and personnel.

        So, I am going to thank you very much for your advice:  I'll be eating my way through their menu once a week for the foreseeable future.

          I'm pleased that you enjoyed your visits to Waffle House.

          FYI: On Christmas, just before he had to go to his mother's for Christmas dinner, my grandson and his wife had me take them to the Waffle House where he had two medium rare double cheeseburgers with chopped grilled onions, bacon and the garden.

          I got an e-mail from him yesterday from Iraq, he and his wife (both in the Army) left a few days after Christmas, and he complained because they don't have any Waffle Houses there.

            Typical WH breakfast or late night munchie would include:
            * Pecan waffle
            * 2 OE
            * covered and smothered
            * sausage
            * large ice tea

              Kahuna, glad to see someone else likes the pecan waffles. I am trying to think of something I don't like at WH with no luck. The chili does need a bit of fixin up for my tastes.

                Listen, I don't think setting up a WH in Iraq for those folks would be too much to ask.  :)  Best of luck to your grandson and his wife.

                  Hey, they have a Subway, a Popeye's, a Pizza Hut and a 24-hour Burger King where they're stationed. So why not a Waffle House?

                  Thank you for the good thoughts for them.

                    It must be a delight to the Sterns to know that someone has "discovered" the joys of a franchised chain restaurant, and will be frequenting it weekly.

                          I'm kind of uncomfortable with my love of Waffle House breakfasts; "conflicted" might be a better term. It makes me feel like a bit of a hypocrite since, as a devoted Roadfooder, I'm really not supposed to be passionate about any franchised chain. Oh well, it could be MUCH worse - I could be an Applebee's fanatic ( no! no! a thousand times, NO! )

                            I've never had a bad drink at Applebees. Oddly enough, Jack Daniels tastes the same there as it does anywhere! who knew! The Applebees bartender in Knoxville (near Airport) could've made my Jack and diet a bit stiffer, though.
                            Their apps were better than those at TGIFriday - but I can't speak about the rest of either menu, because in the past 10 years, that's all I've ever had at either place: drinks and apps - sometime skipping the apps. Happy Hour or late night, when travelling - these places are always close to hotels.

                                If I'm having a waffle, I order it as a pecan waffle, cooked dark.  I also ask for honey (they always have it) as I don't care for their "maple" syrup.

                                On the side, usually sausage, and I ask for it well done.

                                If I'm doing eggs that day, I'll usually do 2-3, over medium or hard, depending on my mood.  I'll get either the sausage or the country ham.  Almost always grits, and usually wheat toast.

                                Last time I was at WH, they had added biscuits and gravy to the menu.  I tried it, and it was OK; just not as good as home.

                                Lunch at WH often finds me ordering the hashbrowns all the way, served with everything and covered in chili.  Guaranteed drowsiness that afternoon, though.

                                and I like WH coffee, too.

                                  Scorereader, my comment about Applebee's was based on three meals, each about a year or so apart, and involving two locations. Each meal was worse than the one before it. The most recent meal was at the Munster IN location; my steak had been marinated in some gawd-awful tasting brew that completely obliterated the beef flavor. I was NOT a happy camper. My opinion of Outback, TGI Friday's, Bar Louie and Houlihan's is likewise - a total waste of time and money.

                                      I have rarely had pork chops for breakfast. I prefer bacon, sausage or ham for breakfast. Pork chops for dinner is my norm.

                                          I never negated what you said, nor claimed they were ay good. I simply said, Applebees appetizers are better than TGIFriday's - which isn't saying much, and that the Jack Daniel's tastes the same at Applebees as it does anywhere else. This is good for me when I need a drink near the hotel. Their entrees? well, I don't touch them. I've been to many different applebees for drinks, and haven't had a bad drink yet. That, of course, says nothing about the food.

                                              Grilled cheese and hash browns!!!

                                              Your post got me thinking about that sandwich. I've never had one at a Waffle House, and I realized that I've not had a toasted cheese sandwich -- that's what we called what you referred to as a grilled cheese sandwich -- in a restaurant since I was about 10 years old and ate them at Tastee-Toastee on Temple Street in New Haven, Connecticut.

                                                      I noticed one on a menu the other day at $3.50. Just cheese -- no tomato or anything else.

                                                        Well it was good enough and cheap enough that my nephew and I stopped at 3 different Waffle Houses on the way and way back from Florida over the holidays.
                                                        Although the price does change based on location.  I think I paid about $8 for 2 sandwiches and 2 orders of hash browns.  I know grilled cheese are easy enough to make at home, but for road travel this was a better choice for us than McDonalds and their service was always quick - so we got back on the road without losing too much travel time.

                                                            I believe it was comic Jim Gaffigan who asked, "Does the Waffle House sign remind you of a ransom note?"   :)

                                                            Food and service seem to vary at each location, but I sort of like sitting there and watching them cook the food, which I've found pretty to be good.
