Waffle House-What do you eat?

I haven't tried waffle house in years. After reading the latest poll I thought I would give it another try. I live within a mile from one. What is good to eat there?

I have only ever been in two in my life. One in Virginia and it was filthy and one in Florida and it was very good. I had the breakfast for supper deal and everything about it was excellent, including the staff. I plan on giving more a try.

HDtravlr1 What is good to eat there? You must be joking. Eggs, hash browns, steaks, country ham, waffles, patty melts, burgers, soups, chili, BLTs, biscuits -- what do you like?

I had a good experience at WH (in GA) and the hash browns were superb. I tried to relive the experience at a few other WH's and finally gave up.

I guess I've been lucky. I've been a Waffle House customer since the early '70s and I've had just one bad experience in all that time, in a place in Wytheville, Virginia. The employees were more interested in talking with each other than waiting on the lone customer. I've eaten in Waffle House restaurants in at least ten states, and I've never encountered any of the conditions described by various posters here. As I said, I guess I've been lucky. Or else some folks are just never satisfied.

I wasn't kidding. My three times at Waffle House in the past were average at best. Figured I might have gotten the wrong items. I like every thing you listed except I am not a big waffle fan because I don't care for maple syrup. I did a little searching after I posted this and the hash browns seemed to be everyone's favorite thing there.

Hello All, I''ve had chili from WH twice, and both times it was okay. I love chili and realize it was not created there, but was probably from a frozen bag, but still tasted okay. I will not comment on the staff because I could tell that there were some negative things going between the cook and waitress during my last visit that had nothing to do with the quality of the food. I will say that on my first visit the portion was good, while on the second visit I feel they short-changed me on the amount of chili I received. I would go back if they offered french fries. Take Care, Fieldthistle

A hash-brown or waffle breakfast, or a burger. Stick to what they're good at. Now this does not apply to the Indiana-area non-chain Waffle Houses. Everything is good there and I particularly like the biscuits & gravy.

John A jeepguy Just scrape the goo off the condiment containers into a bowl. That sounds good! Sorry but the WH i've been to a few times in SC is absolutely filthy. Kinda takes away the magic IMO. Since you live in Chicago and are referring to a WH in SC I'm guessing you're stopping while on the road. Rather than continuing to stop at what you know is a poorly managed WH why not try another location.? It's the same location. 29585. I have a house there. It's a poor example of WH.

I've eaten at Waffle House in at least a half-dozen states, a few of them multiple times, and I learned early on to limit my visits to breakfast time. Lunch and dinner at WH do absolutely nothing for me. Breakfast, however, is a different matter. In all of my many early morning Waffle House stops, I've only had one disappointing breakfast ( mediocre food and indifferent service. ) Otherwise, I've been very pleased with both the food and the service. The sausage patties and hash browns are very good, and the one time that I had the country ham, I wasn't disappointed. Also, I've never come across a WH that I considered "dirty". Tomorrow morning, I'm leaving on an overnight roadtrip down to Cincinnati, and I'm looking forward to breakfast at my "regular" Waffle House in Harrison Ohio. Bob

We had a to go order of 2- t-bone steaks, hash browns, texas toast and salads recently while on the road. Took them back to motel to eat. Have to say everything tasted good. Also had their burgers several times and though a bit on the dry side they were very edible.

Hint: When you order a burger tell them how you want it cooked -- medium, medium rare, whatever -- and insist that no one press down on the patty with a spatula.

I've been eating at WH's for years. All over the Southeast. Some are better than others in terms of service and cleanliness, but that's a management issue. I've found that when WH corporate finds out about a poorly performing store they are pretty quick to resolve the matter. I love the breakfast items best. I love the omelets and the hash browns. The patty melts are great too.

DougS Pork Chops for breakfast? Why not? Pork chops, four eggs scrambled with cheese, hash browns scattered, smothered, peppered and topped, with wheat toast or biscuits makes for a good, good breakfast. But, there's also lunch and dinner, and everything in between.

I was in Cincinnati yesterday morning, and I had breakfast at the Waffle House on I-74 / US 52 in Harrison Ohio. For a chain restaurant, it was a helluva good meal. I had the country ham and it was great; very authentic. Not quite as good as what I've had down in North Carolina, but very close. Good eggs, hashbrowns and sausage gravy n' biscuit - a very enjoyable breakfast ( and the place was clean, too! ) Bob

One of my favorite breakfasts at Molly's in Hesperia CA was the Pork Chop and Egg Plate. 3 eggs and 3 Grilled Pork Chops (thin-cut) with Home fries or Hash Browns and either Toast or Biscuit and Gravy for $5.50. I like the Chops "well-done" so they were almost crispy. This was a great morning-filler for me in my days before discovering Waffle House !

I love the crispy hash browns with onions, sausage or bacon and a couple of medium fried eggs. I encourage the yolks to run over the hash browns. We like to notice the different personalities each WH seems to have. Somewhere in NC is the happy WH. I've never seen such a bunch of happy servers. There is a laid back one, a sad one and a we're-all-family one here.

Capt. Jack It was either Molly Browns Country Kitchen (on the tracks near the Main St Bridge), or the place that moved into the old 'Olympic Flame' Cafe a 3rd and Main (on the NW corner). The more I think of it i think it was the 3rd and Main Cafe!... Molly Browns is a great train-watcher Cafe too!
