quote:Originally posted by susanll We ate at the local WH a couple of weekends ago. I was amazed at how the servers give the cooks the orders. They may yell 3-4 tables orders at a time. How those two cooks at the grill kept up with whose eggs went with what hasbrowns, is a mystery to me. A mystery to me also. I have often watched the cooks and they work in a very small area and get a lot done there. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

There's a sort of code. If you watch you'll see that whenever a cook gets an order he pulls a plate and places things on it. A chunk of ham and a piece of onion for hash browns that are to be scattered, smothered and with ham. A tub of apple butter for eggs scrambled with cheese to go with the raisin toast that comes with that. And, there'll be a slice of cheese for hash browns scattered and covered -- two slices for eggs scrambled with cheese, etc.

You know it's funny this came up. We had a late nightcap at WH this past Saturday after an evening of owl-listening in the swamp (for reals!) I actually enjoy the WH although if I'm on the road looking for breakfast I'm probably looking for a McMuffin if I can't find a RF-type place. I would literally never dream of stopping at a CB.

Right. That's the chart they have on the wall next to the grill hood.

Yeah, we all need a sweatshirt that says "I love Mee-Maw & Paw-Paw" and has embroidered care bears on it from a restaurant.

We used to go to CB in the 1980's and the early 1990's. When the economy was at full employment in the mid to late 1990's their service and consistency deteriorated and we haven't been back since. When driving straight thru from Baltimore to Florida we will stop at WH for dinner because it is fast, hot and consistent. We only order the breakfast items.

Although we average at least one breakfast out per week, at best we might stop at one Cracker Barrel per year (we have one about four miles away, but have only been there once) and perhaps 3x/yr at WH in our travels as there are none in our local area. About half the time, we have a very late breakfast rather than lunch. Guess we are very fortunate as we have at least a half dozen places (independently owned) for breakfast within 4-5 miles. We also have a local Denny's, but we've haven't been to any Dennys in a good 5-7 years. I'll never understand the draw for chain / motel breakfast. When we travel, we always seek out the local breakfast spot ( http://www.mrbreakfast.com/restaurant1.asp) can be a good reference when in an unfamiliar location.

"Cravcker Barrel" ?? I have to assume that this is the Scandinavian branch of Cracker Barrel, and as I have not yet been to any of the Scandinavian countries, I cannot comment on this restaurant chain.
