I am never going to them for the same things. They fit totally different moods and food cravings. So, I'm never really making a choice between the two.

Traveling alone, I opt for WH. Otherwise, CB (if there isn't a line). pb

You are comparing apples to oranges

If you like fruit eat them both

We have neither in the Twin Cities. My preference is to find a local independent but I kind of hope to try a Waffle House when we are traveling in Ohio this coming may.

Waffle House. I just took my Daughter there last Friday - she wanted breakfast for dinner. I like the diner atmosphere, simple menu and fast service.

I think Waffle House and IHOP would be a closer comparison.
But to answer the question, I believe Waffle House puts out a tastier breakfast than Cracker Barrel.

I love looking at all the gift items CB sells. Not excited about their food. I love waffles so I'd love to try a Waffle House.

My last experience at Waffle House turned me off the chain forever:
Flies, dirty, lousy (rude) service, employees joking more amongst themselves than paying attention to the customers, hair in the eggs.

Cracker Barrel always has a long line and I don't care for that cluttered store in front of each restaurant.

So my answer is: Bob Evans.

Cracker Barrel - but my other half dislikes it so I only eat there when roadtripping with the girls.

I'll stay home and have a bowl of Fruit Loops before I will eat at either place.

I'm still holding a grudge against Waffle House from ten years ago, when I went to one only to find they didn't take credit cards. I'm sorry, but if you're on an interstate, you take credit cards. I had to get back in my car, and watch the wait staff take down my license plate to make sure I didnt' skip town on my patty melt - and go try and find an ATM machine at 1 in the morning in a strange town. I know they now take cards, but it doesn't matter to me.

I laughed to myself when I walked past the Waffle House in Gulfport, MS last year, as they had a flyer posted on the door that said "In order to please our customers, we now offer a non-smoking section"...

Well, I laughed because the place is so small and boxy as it is. So do you think the smoke is really going to know the difference?!? (and not cross that magical line into the sacred "non-smoking section") That Waffle House is such a smoky place. I remember going in there, and seeing the waitresses cigarettes burning nearby, while they were taking orders. How about just making the whole place NON-smoking, while you are at it??!? Now that would be nice. Mississippi is way behind the times, as far as indoor smoking laws goes.
(but then again, so is Philly)

                                        Hello All,
When I was younger, I never ate breakfast at home or
on the road. I rarely eat breakfast at home now, but
on the road I like to eat at the place I am staying at
if they offer it. Otherwise, I skip it or seek IHOP or
the closest local place that is open.
While so many people love Cracker Barrel and Waffle House,
I have a sense of guilt because Cracker Barrel's food is
bland nothingness to me and Waffle House seems so seedy
that I feel like I'm going to a prostitute. Ouch, I was harsh.
My statement of Waffle House seeming seedy and like going to
a prostitute comes from the staff...they were cold, distance,
and acted liked they didn't want to be there and didn't care
that I was there. Not that I've been with a prostitute. (I think
I'm getting myself in trouble here.)
As far as this post...I'll sleep in until check-out time and
just hit the road, forgetting breakfast.
                                        Take Care,
                                        Fieldthistle

I think the WH is more of a road food place that the CB. You go to WH when you are on the road, regardless of the hour, and you need a quick bite.

The CB is a little more of a production. Sometimes the wait at the CB can be an hour, and that's when they get you buying stuff from the county store. I also think, even though the CBs are always right the off the interestate, that a lot of the people who go to a CB are locals. I know my grandmother went to CB every week, but the only CB she ever went to was the one five minutes from her home.

We ate at the local WH a couple of weekends ago. I was amazed at how the servers give the cooks the orders. They may yell 3-4 tables orders at a time. How those two cooks at the grill kept up with whose eggs went with what hasbrowns, is a mystery to me.

Be nice to Fieldthistle. The prostitute was a bad experience; cold and indifferent like a Waffle House waitress.

And, do we really want Mrs. Fieldthistle subjected to standing by him as he types his response?
