Wally World Rant haha

I live in the Dayton,Ohio area and they opened a new super duper Wally World out by the Dayton Mall. The store it's self is ok and clean of course haha just opened. My rant is with the cashier, OMG the slowest person EVER ! I admit, my cart was full of items, but she scanned so slow I could could of took a nap. It took 29 minutes to scan all the items in cart. I started looking at my watch when ppls started leaving the line that were behind me. I don't know how I managed not to blow my top, but God know I so wanted too haha Pam

Being a new store, management may still be training the people. Some people, even though very good-hearted, just don't realize how slow they are, or what a proper pace should be. I had a teenage boy in fast food place like that. He was very pleasant and personable, but he moved like molasses in January. He t-o-o-k m-y m-o-n-e-y. He w-a-l-k-e-d o-v-e-r to t-h-e f-o-o-d. He s-e-a-r-c-h-e-d f-o-r a b-a-g. F-o-u-n-d it a-n-d f-i-l-l-e-d it. Then s-l-o-w-l-y he turned. Step by step, inch by inch.... It was funny. All he needed was for someone to tell him, "Son, you really can move faster. It's OK."

I would still prefer a slow cashier doing the scanning to those self-checkers that have taken over the first 5 registers at each end of the check-out area at our local store! Another WalMart comment- We don't buy much produce there, as it is usally not very good quality! HOWEVER, This weekend they had Sweet Cherries in 2 lb bags at $2.00 a lb. Normally that would mean that they had some "well-past prime" fruit being sold as a clearance item before it really rots. Not this time. They had a large display of very large, full-flavored Bing-type Dark Cherries. Very few had any dents or marks on them. Almost all were well over an inch to an inch-and-a-quarter in diameter. We bought 10 lbs over the weekend (due to the failure of our home-grown cherries this year), and are freezing many of them for Fall use! Now and then WalMart does come thru with some good bargains.

I find I have more trouble with the people in line in front of me than the cashiers at Walmart. Seems like the person directly in front of me always disputes the prices on everything, or decides they need something else as soon as their total is rung up, or sends one of their kids to find something. (sigh) C'est la vie.

I probably mentioned this before in a thread, but the manager of one of our SuperCenters (thank goodness only one) has the policy that no matter how many items a customer has in their cart, they can check out thru the (20 items or less) Fast Lane! I know it is his policy since I have complained about it to the checkers and they told me so. Most of the regular customers know this, so some bring a shopping cart that is overflowing thru the Fast Lane. This store used to have Self Checkouts which I used, but they closed them because of shoplifting. So any more if I get one of these "hogs" ahead of me in the Fast Lane, I will usually remark in a loud voice to anyone behind me how she (It is always a "she".) "must be too stupid to be able to count", or "I need to get my eyes checked, since I must be seeing double if that's 20 items" or something similar. If I know it is a busy shopping time, I usually go to one of the other SuperCenters to shop, even if they are twice as far away, since I know I will save time in the long run.

Add some chopped onions and pickled jalapenos to their Great Value chili and it's not bad. Joe

Any time a mass market store opens up, there is always the chance they will hire someone who doesn't work out. These folks generally disappear within about a month.

I have found that those who work crummy part time hours for minimum wage and lousy benefits are usually those just on the verge of greatness. I am shocked you got a slow cashier.

I would welcome some self checkouts at the local super wally world. It's newer than others in the area and the neighborhood is as good but it was built with no self checkouts.

Joe They used to have a Great Value salsa roja (enchilada sauce) that was great, but it seems to have disappeared from their shelves. I don't think the replacement stuff is near the same thing. At least I can still get bottles of Tapatio for under a buck fifty there. And get stuff to change my oil at the same time, and pick up some socks too. And a box of 12 gauge shells.

Anytime I go into Walmart there's plenty of people on the floor doing absolutely nothing but a total lack of cashiers...then there's the customers who go through the express lane that clearly states 12 items or less with a shopping cart of about 80 items...also the fact there's shopping carts abandoned all over the carpark. Only in Walmart do I experience these problems, other than that I like their prices.

Just stand near the entrance to the restrooms in the Valley Stream, NY Death Store and take in the passing parade, including employees going to their break area/locker rooms/whatever which is next to the rest rooms.

David, I am not sure I understand your point...However, I would suggest you stand near the entrance to the restrooms at any of the thousands of High Schools in the USA and observe the appearance and behavior of the employees and inmates students. You may find that Your Walmart observation is actually a reflection of a cross-section of America !

Funny you mention coffee Annie. When I picked-up the cherries I mentioned above, WalMart had an "Aisle-Pile" of Blue Maxwell House Coffee "Cans" on sale for $6. I thought that was a pretty good price, 'til I read the size of the can...32 oz. We just bought what appeared to be the same container (regular Maxwell House) at Costco for $6.45....But the Costco container was 42.5 oz !! Always have a calculator with you, in case the store doesn't provide consummer info!

WM is a necessary evil in my part of the world - I keep a list going all week and go early Saturday morning - once a week. In our small town I usually see the same Saturday morning shoppers every week and we chat and complain about the store and the go on about our business. I normally find that there are several things I always buy that are not in stock - for the last two weeks it's been Pond Pellets Fish Food, marinated artichokes, frozen petite English peas, and Sargent's Skip Flea Shampoo - those are just the ones that come to mind right now. The check out is usually a nightmare - and if you bring your eco friendly bags you're going to get frowns from the cashier - it seems there is a great deal of difficulty dealing with them rather than the regular plastics bags. I still go to WM for the regular stuff but continue to use my local hometown grocer for the freshest produce and meats - there's no comparison there ---
