Pilgrim franks would get my vote. They were so red they stained the buns red too! They had a thick casing and, if I recall correctly, had a sliughtly sweet taste. They were available in Syracuse, NY where I grew up and really didn't taste all that bad.

By the way, refering to a previous post Poutin is a Quebecer food not necessarily from upstate ny although I'd like to try it if they sell it there. My favorite version was from St. Huberts near Montreal as it was slightly spicy owing to the spicy gravey they use. They also make a mean rotissie chicken.

Talk to him politely. That should surprise him.

There's a popular radio personality in S. FL named Neil Rogers and he is from NY. He is always talking about a hotdog called "Red Hots" and another called "White Hots". I've never had either.

Neil is the bomb. I have many of his CD's. yes he's still on the air (I think...I live in Orlando now) but he takes many vacations. His bits are the best and he tells it like it is.

Good to see so many other people familiar with upstate NY. I also have family from Malone that will help feed my Glazier hot dog fix. :)

D&M, Yandos, Price Chopper, or the fisherman's quickie mart on Rte 30 (near the Tamarack and Marshall Rd) all have Glaziers.

Here is a website to order Glaziers:
            http://shoptheadirondacks.com/gpage22.html

And for another summertime favorite, Salt Potatoes (not just any small potato from the grocery store will do!)
            http://www.tasteofcny.com/index.php?cPath=27

Hope this helps anyone looking for their favorite summertime foods...

The "white hots" he referred to are the ones popular in Rochester, NY. That's a long ways from the Adirondacks, so they may not be the same.

                Zweigle's are popular in Rochester.

I prefer Hofmann's coneys (white hots) to Zweigle. But, it's all about where you grow up.

PS - Malone is considered part of the St. Lawrence Seaway and also consider themselves part of the North Country, not the Adirondaks. Same is true for all those other small towns along US Rt. 11 (Gouverneur, Canton, Potsdam) since none of them are technically in the Adirondaks.
When I was in college, my buddy and I would go to a town bar in a Days Inn in Malone. Every now and then we felt we needed to escape the college town of Potsdam, and mix with the real locals.

Yes, and the OP was asking about Hudson, NY, which is about 35 miles south of Albany. However, a poster steered her to:

                    http://www.shoptheadirondacks.com/

for the Glazier sausages. That's why I mentioned Adirondacks (where I resided for 12 months).

P.S. My folks had a cottage on the St. Lawrence river.

oh. I thought you were talking about Malone.
                      I see now.

Where in the Adirondaks were you?
My sister-in-law is from Saranac Lake. As a college student we often skied at Big Tupper, I spent plenty of time at the sadelite campus at Star Lake (which, unfortunately, the college no longer owns), and a group of friends would rent cabins in Saranac Lake and go hiking, canoeing, etc.

Near Paul Smith's, which is not too far from Saranac Lake. We went into "town" at Saranac Lake for shopping, etc. It was six two-month stays during the summer when I was a kid. We did lots of hiking, camping and fishing. It was so nice up there then.
