Water Pump for Triple Sink Sun, 06/8/08 2:56 AM (permalink)
I am trying to put together a triple sink with an electric(plug in) water pump and I am having difficulty knowing exactly what model, brand type etc to go with. It is just going to be an under the counter project, but I don't even know anything about how much pressure how big of pump etc. I have read that Shurflo units are quite common, but what size model number etc. Also I have also heard of units that fit directly on a water cooler bottle for the fresh water??? I am also interested if anyone has any information about what is needed for a electric water heater, size wise, how many gallons etc. If anyone can recommend anything I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance for the speedy reply.

You want the pump to deliver the minimum flow rate for your needs; if handwashing is all you need then a low flow rate is ample. You don't want a pump that will bleed your fresh water storage dry in 10 seconds. Your health district will have specifics on minimum tank capacities that are required. Most times, the gray water tank must have a larger capacity than the fresh water tank and will be expressed as a percentage, eg - the gray water tank must be at least 15% higher capacity. As to hot water capacities, 5 gallons is common. Look for RV plumbing supplies. Here's a sample of some stuff (this is just a random google search hit for an example, not a recommendation for a company):

The basic pressure for homes is 30 psi and can go up to 65 psi which is very high, (30-40 psi would be most common). RJF

Thanks for the input. I am trying to narrow down a specific pump, and the one that I am thinking of going with is a Shurflo Park Model which operates on 110VAC and is plugged into switched outlet. This pump provides 3.3 GPM water flow, is self priming and can be mounted anywhere. I am just wondering if anyone else is using this equipment and has a model number, or advice thoughts etc. I think the one I will go for is the Shurflo 2088-594-154.

Thanks for the URL. I hadn't seen that site before and am adding it to my resources file.
