Way (up) in Bowling Green, prettiest girls I've ever seen...

Next month, we'll be swinging back through Bowling Green after running up to Owensboro for family bizness and returning to Nashville to meet with old friends for supper. I've only stopped in Bowling Green once, to shop at the terrific Great Escape comic shop, and don't know anything about the place. There are no reviews here or at Chopped Onion for any restaurants in Bowling Green. What's good for a small second lunch / midafternoon snack? Part of me wonders whether I could get a BPT sandwich like was so lovingly discussed in today's featured review of Chatterbox in Iowa ( http://www.roadfood.com/R...s/7360/chatterbox-cafe ), but I'm also curious about regional fast food like we don't have in Georgia. There doesn't appear to be a Taco John's, which I'd like to try, but are there any local equivalents of Milo's or Jack's like in north Alabama, or Pal's in NE TN/VA, Cook Out in NC, or Martin's in north GA in this region? (Oh, and NO barbecue. We're having barbecue for lunch and supper already. Thanks!)

Just to clarify, I assume you are referencing Bowling Green, Kentucky and not Bowling Green, OH. Earlier this year, cousin Johnny and I were driving through and stopped at Judy's Castle for some fine home made pies. We didn't have appetite for lunch, but the rest of the food we saw looked like it was worth a look. It is probably best known for breakfast, so you should call about their hours to make sure they will be open.

Oh, yes, Bowling Green Kentucky. Thanks! (Judy's Castle apparently closes at 1.30 on Saturdays, so that won't do for us. Any other suggestions?)

Judy's Castle was my first choice, but since they're going to be closed when you get there, try this one. http://www.440main.com/page.php?20 I've had som good meals at this place. Bowling Green is not known for their independent restaurants (it's primarily a city made up of chains), but there are a few independents in the area. Mariah's is another that is pretty good that is not a chain. http://www.mariahs.com/

Spooky, I heard that song on the Oldies station yesterday, probably for the first time in decades.

Kermit's is a small mom and pop joint that's been open about 40 years. The whole family works there. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Get the liver and onions. The pies are all home made. Corner Grill is outstanding for breakfast, lunch and dinner and open 24/7. Corner Grill @ 200 N Main Street, Bowling Green, OH 419 - 353 - 3858. Kermit's @ 307 S Main Street, Bowling Green, OH 419 - 354 - 1388.

plb, I haven't heard the original in ages either, but I do love Neko Case's cover of it! I was thinking about Mariah's - I followed the Urbanspoon listings to find that place - but everything's still up in the air. Great American Donut Shop looks like a good fallback if we're still too full of lunch. Littleman, I was going to write you if this thread didn't get any action! I'll look into your ideas. Thanks everyone.

The Bowling Green, Ohio place I had in mind was Kaufman's. I found them recommended in the 1992 edition of Roadfood. Dad and I stopped there on one of our western Ohio business trips, traveling between Toledo and Lima, I think. I won't say the food was revelatory, but it was good, honest grub served with pride by student workers from the nearby university. It's been at least ten years since we've visited, so I can't say whether or not the quality has remained the same, or if they are even still in business. If so, I'd say Kaufman's is worth a gamble. Note: We stopped at the location on the outskirts of town, not far off of I-75. There is a second location in downtown Bowling Green that seemed a bit hoity-toity to us. Buddy Kaufman's 1628 Wooster Bowling Green, OH (419) 354-2535 Downtown Location: 163 S. Main St. Bowling Green, OH (419) 352-2595

You would be wise to call the Corvette place before going. I am fairly sure that they were hit by a tornado recently.
