We HAVE Permission!!!!

I went to the Recreation Commission tonight to request permission to locate on the city ball fields (without concession stands)... we had some brief discussions, and they were all very enthusiasticc about the idea and gave me any/all fields if I need them!!!! I just have to show that I've gotten the OK from the League manager of said field (i.e. the boys baseball league as opposed to the girls' softball league, etc).

But for now, I'll have enough work cut out for me with the Mens Softball League :) Y'know they run 5 (that's FIVE) games on Sundays!! I'm psyched!!!

I'm just now waiting for my CORI check to go through from the Police Dept, which I should have next week, and we then just stock up the supplies. My first day is after I finish my last college class on May 1st (another YIPPPEEEE!!!) and then we go to work!!

First Janski Congratulations and I'm sure everyone here wishes you the best success in your new career. To Uncle Vic a CORI check is when you doctor puts on that rubber glove only this one is done by the police department.

Actually, in Massachusetts (don't know about other states), they do this C.O.R.I. (Criminal Offender Record Information) through the local Police Dept to make sure (especially when you have access to kids) that you are NOT on their records as being an offender. In my particular city, they attach the CORI to your city license... so if you don't pass the CORI, you don't get the license.

In Mass, CORI is everywhere. Want to be an asst little league coach? work with Boy Scouts?,do anything in the schools such as assist with a field trip, you get a CORI. With the shear volume, I have to wonder how much manpower it takes, but it seems to work. I expect that a lot of folks that we may not want have backed out of the volunteer process because of it.

In the State Guard (an unpaid volunteer adjunct to the Massachusetts National Guard), we found it to be a valuable screening tool to keep the crazies away.

A CORI does not always prevent a person from volunteering or getting a job, but it does put leadership on notice. The program has had some growing pains. (employment can be tough for a guy convicted of a crime years ago, and who has been straight ever since), but all in all, we are generally glad to have the law.

Where I live in Ohio you have to go through a fingerprint check, etc., to even be a volunteer at a school. When I was coaching I had to do it every year.

Janski, you will do well during the youth games. I would not count on much for the adult games. Sorry. I thought it would be good, just like you. All of the adult teams I have experienced here in Colorado go to happy hour before the game, eat a bar burger, play a little softball and then go back to the bar. They don't want to spend a lot of money in between. Plus, there isn't as many spectators as the youth games. (someone has to drive the kids, ie. dads and moms and bring the siblings along, too). I currently vend at two seperate city concession stands with baseball/softball fields, and run my cart at my choice of six other fields, depending on which is busiest that day. My biggest park has eight lighted fields. This is a topic I know about, though I didnt really plan it that way. Email me if you want some good advice and maybe you won't have to make all the same stupid mistakes I have, (and still do). BY the way, I never got a CORI. hmmm I guess that Sri Lankan trip will still be OK. JUST A JOKE you sickos. See ya, Big B
