I received an email saying Joe Rogo marked one of my posts as helpful.  Is that something new?  I mean sending out email notices, not Joe being a nice guy.

Consider it a "LIKE"!!!

I received a notice like that, too. Of course my notice wasn't about Joe. He'd never call one of my posts helpful. Come to think of it I wouldn't call one of my posts helpful either.

Consider it a "GIFT"!

To Post a new thread you can also go to any of the "folders" - there is a button at the top of each one

I didn't know it was a new forum. New software or just an update to the existing software? Let's hope this one will run faster than the last.. not that the last one was too slow or anything, but faster is always better.
I don't like the forum so far.. when I go to the website I saw no forum initially.. I was like what the heck.. I see some kind of summary of the latest posts instead of all the forums. It's an unnecessary extra click to get to the forums. Maybe there's a setting in my control panel.

Discovered one glitch that's going to drive me nuts. Clicking on the "new posts" icon in a thread doesn't take you to your first unread any more. For instance,  in this thread, two hours ago I read however many posts had shown up since my last one. Now, when I click on the icon, I'm taken to the first new post after my last one as opposed to the ones I haven't read yet.

That's what I ran into. You have to change your bookmark (if that's what you're using) to the All Forums section rather than the Forums Home. Not sure how it works if you get here by means other than a bookmark directly to the forums, though.

Just as Paul said, I can't find a way to post a new thread.

At the top of the page there is a Reply to post button, on the drop down menu I found post new thread.

Michael, I don't think that is a bug.  That came as a request from Lisa!

How did you figure that out???

Everything looks good on this new format.  I can just say I'm glad I did my trip report on the old one!

By the way, in which forum are trip reports supposed to be located now?

Never mind, I found it.

One of the most used features of the old forum - for me - was the "posts since last visit". Is there a way to do that now?

I'm noticing posts by certain posters are still being shown twice. I thought, surely this glitch would have been rectified with this new update.

I think I fixed it for you, but you need to update the friends in your address book.  What you experienced was a very old bug - I am surprised you have been dealing with it for this long!

Yeah, so will we be able to post avatar photos soon?

and I LOVE that we can upload pictures directly to posts without having to go upload and copy them the old way.

If you click on the "Latest Posts' tab it gives you all the latest posts in chronological order by the time they were submitted. Just read down and open the ones you want to read until you get to the last post where you left off.
Everything's in chronological order.
2 other tricks:
 1. Click on the time listed i.e. "24 minutes ago" and it will take you to the last post made on that thread.
 2. Click on the little yellow tab at the end of the title and it takes you to your last unread post on that thread, just like previously before the upgrade.

I'm not having any difficulty navigating the new system. It's really much better.
It does, however, require you to use common sense and logic to figure things out and that may be a challenge for some of us!

I'm figuring everything out, although I'm still confused when I first come here and it looks different. So far I've managed to figure everything out, but I did notice an odd thing. You know how you used to be able to type Name of the Link and it would come out in text instead of URL? It doesn't do that now. Posts made before the change were not affected, but new ones are.

For example:
Roadfood

You can now upload up to 5 images per post with a max image file size of 250k.  The only requirement, which is put in place to prevent SPAM, is that the user has to have a total post count of 25.

Re: We are live with the new Forum! 2014/07/05 09:25:36 (permalink)
Stephen,

What Felix was trying to explain is you can't do the url= code so that an overly long url address that makes no readable sense such as the example you posted could have a substitute word to click on that does make sense. That ability was present before and is not now. Most message boards support it.

As for attaching photos as you demonstrated I've already tested this new version with a multiple 8 photo posting in the Indy Eats thread. I hope that isn't going away with that 5 max attached images method of photos you can't see in the message without clicking on them.

Multiple embedded photos you can see is the strength of Roadfood.com and its many trip reports that have photos interspersed with the narrative. It this hasn't gone away then I doubt I would ever use the uploading of attached images. If it has gone away then it will probably end trip reports as we know and enjoy them.

That didn't work. Now on to photos. You can still embed referenced photos. Which way would you like it?
