My last text from him was last Friday.  He said, "Hi Lisa.  I'm slowly getting better.  Hope y'all are well!"

Because it's not commercially available, as far as I know. Bushie was doing it himself. It was after the Glee Club gathering in Nashville where he tried some and liked it.

Michael, you are very creative.  Perhaps you could manufacture the elixir yourself???  Just to celebrate the life of our good friend??

I never met him, but know he was a good friend to many of you.We exchanged good thoughts, and he was always a kind man. I am so sorry, my friends. I really am.

I never had the opportunity to meet Bushie, but in his honor I'll have double.

Bushie's passing makes face-to-face meetings with my virtual Roadfood friends a high priority for me.  Mr. Hoffman & Lisa, be prepared for a visit on December 20.

I only got to meet him once, but you could immediately know he was a true gentleman.
He left this sorry old world a better place for his being here.
Go well, my friend.

Last year, Bushie described his efforts at making bacon-infused bourbon.  I found it in the thread I started about my trip to Macy's parade.

I think at 5 PM Pacific Time I'm going to pour a glass of my Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select Bourbon and have a toast to Bushie. Anyone is welcome to join me at that same time (I'm making it early for myself to accommodate all of you on the other side of the Rockies).I think he deserves a toast with the good stuff.

And what's the Queen Mary to do with it?

Glad to join you in the toast, Michael. The Queen Mary's Director of Food and beverage went to Lynchburg to taste 3 barrels and bring one back. They were bottled exclusively for the Queen Mary's Jack Daniels Dinner in July. I was invited to it since I've been working closely with them on their food events for the last year. Of course I had to get a bottle for myself!

I got my first bottle from Tom Caulfield (chewingthefat). When we visited Tom and his wife this past summer he poured a couple of drinks for me, and then gave me the rest of the bottle to take home. I've since bought my own. I love it.

I've been holding a bottle of Mikkeler weasel-**** beer since the Raleigh Glee Club meet.  It was promised to Bushie, and is now being iced down.

I'm at Sandra's in CT this weekend. I'll be joining you at 8PM eastern time with a local  craft brew, similar to that which I enjoyed with Bushie in Round Rock just a little over 18 months ago.

I don't have any bacon-infused bourbon like we had in Nashville.  But I will certainly raise a glass at 8PM in memory of my dear friend.

Roz and I will join the rest of you with a toast to Bushie at 8:00PM.  Bushie always had Canadian with me and sometimes in incredible amounts.
This has been a horrible day.  I lost two friends this week. It has not been pleasant.  Bushie ws my guest in Knoxville a few times and I visisted him 4-5 times in Austin.

He not already missed but will continually be missed.
Cheers Bushies in three minutes.

Re:We've lost our Friend BUSHIE 2013/11/03 08:02:15 (permalink)
I was tied up with auction business on Saturday, so My toast to "BUSHIE" took place here at 7 AM Sunday morning.  The selection of that time  dates back to the morning of the first Glee Club BBQ quest day in Western Tennessee.  Bushie and I got an ealy start that February morning, and had about an hour at the meeting point before the others would arrive...so we cruised the area looking for a breakfast stop at one of the exits on I-40. We found a BBQ stand/cafe open that early, and bought our first 'sample' of the day, then sat in my truck eating Ribs and Corn Bread at 7 AM while we waited for Paul, Chris and Pov Pete to arrive.
Bushie with a ham biscuit that morning..

Farewell after another great visit.

I am not as active on this site as some of y'all. But Bushie was an icon -- one of the original core people who made this site go. His comments were always relevant, insightful, thoughtful, amusing, or all of the above.

I didn't "know" him, but I knew him from this site, y'know?

RIP. I shall raise a glass in his honor tonight.
